Background[]
"CandyCookieChocolate" is an original song by HALLO CEL, featuring Hatsune Miku V4X Original and Kasane Teto SV. The song explores themes of hypnosis, dangos, and the complex relationship between the audience and showrunners.
Througout the music video, Miku and Teto take on their usual roles as showrunners, with subtle hints hidden throughout the visuals. Their encounter with a dango offered by a mysterious stranger marks a turning point—after consuming it, they gradually fall under its influence. Whether this is due to hypnosis or simple food poisoning remains ambiguous.
At the end of the video, a cryptic message teases that if the song reaches 10 million views, viewers will uncover the final subtle hint—only for the outro to abruptly cut off.
The song gained significant traction, surpassing 1 million views and earning a place in the Hall of Fame, marking HALLO CEL’s first million-view milestone. Then, on a day in February, approximately at 11:28:00 (UTC+0), CandyCookieChocolate hit 10 million views. As promised, an extended version of the song was edited on YouTube, revealing that the video itself it's actually been cut off by an editor and finally revealed the last hidden hint and completing the outro.[1]
However, on Niconico upload, the abrupt cut remains due to the platform’s limitations—unlike YouTube, Niconico does not have an editor for updating videos.
Controversy[]
When HALLO CEL posted the first sneak peek of CandyCookieChocolate on Twitter,[2] it sparked discussion within the Vocaloid community. Some fans noticed similarities between the animation style and choreography of "Mesmerizer" by 32ki, leading to debates about artistic inspiration and originality. The controversy escalated as some accused HALLO CEL of plagiarizing, heavily borrowing, or making a shameless clone from Mesmerizer.
Additionally, there was confusion regarding the involvement of a creator named channel known as CASTSTATION. Some initially believed that channel had directly worked on the animation, but it was later clarified and revealed through private messages that channel was not involved in the production. Instead, channel acknowledged that their animation style was a good fit for some VOCALOID music videos and encouraged more people to use it.
However, channel also noted that while they personally did not mind the similarities, they understood that some people might take issue with works that closely resemble existing ones. They advised HALLO CEL to be mindful of composition and structure to avoid unintentionally making works appear too derivative.[3]
