Background[]
"Literacy" is a song featuring KAITO by wotaku. It is his first work to feature KAITO as a vocalist.
The song follows the story of an ordinary university student who, in terms of sensibility, has some deviations from that of normal human beings'. He thinks that he cannot reach a mutual understanding with other people through ordinary conversations with other people. Unable to accept his abnormalities and the fact that personal values vary from person to person, which result in his inablity to gain a mutual understanding, he seeks a way to feel empathy with the other party, and eventually comes to the conclusion that this could be achieved through inflicting "pain" (which is a common sense for every human being).
What started as trivial acts like slapping or pulling hair would evolve into punching, kicking, cutting his skin, and finally, the protagonist would pursue this deeper sense of pain through tearing his own abdomen. It is also not unilateral self-harm that he commits either, as the other party would be equally harmed as him. The protagonist believes that through sharing mutual pain with the other person, he would be able to truly understand them.
It should be noted that his relationship with the other party is different from that of a sexual love where one wants to take the other as their own, and instead, is a friendship where the protagonist wants to see and feel "the same scenery" as the other person. The other party is also expected to be a male student, though it is unknown whether this other person shares the same deviations and ideas as the protagonist.
Gradually, the two conclude that so long as a body and a mentality still exists, they would still be unable to reach a full consensus, and only "death" would grant them the mutual understanding they seek. The song ends with the two people possibly heading towards their demise.
The song has entered the Hall of Fame.

- The build-up (ochisabi / 落ちサビ) section of the song emphasizes the breath, because wotaku wanted it to resemble a piece of erotic audio.[1] The breath effect in KAITO's version was imported from that of Azsagawa's.[2]
- A version featuring Hatsune Miku was also hinted to potentially be featured in one of wotaku's albums in the future.[3]
