Background[]

“Hello, it's Hachi. I think that the environment encircling VOCALOID has changed a fair bit since I was in it. Using the opportunity of having the matter of the theme song being given to me, I thought: if I, as Hachi, were to make a song with Miku now, what would be the most appropriate? This was the result. While reminiscing of the VOCALOID landscape that I saw and the castles we had built in the sandbox, and seeking the perfect balance between nostalgic feelings and new feelings, there was the "sand planet."”

"DUNE" is an original song by Hachi. It was uploaded after his long absence in the VOCALOID music scene since his previous work, "Donut Hole". This is the official theme song for the Magical Mirai 2017 concert.

This song features references to other songs, including but not limited to "MATORYOSHKA" and "Panda Hero", which are also by Hachi; "Melt"; "World's End Dancehall"; "E? Aa, sou."; "Senbonzakura"; "Mozaik Role"; and "Children Record".

This song was quick to enter the Hall of Fame at 5 hours and 27 minutes after its upload. On July 27, 2017, it broke the record for fastest song to enter Hall of Legend (previously held by Mitchie M's FREELY TOMORROW for 6 consecutive years), taking only 6 days, 5 hours and 19 minutes to do so. This song subsequently broke the record for fastest 2 million, 3 million, and 4 million views on Niconico. On YouTube, it is one of the only three VOCALOID songs to exceed the 60 million views mark (aside from ECHO and Goodbye Sengen). It entered the Hall of Myths on July 21, 2022. Hence, this is Hachi's most notable song, alongside "MATORYOSHKA", one of Miku's most notable songs, and Miku's most viewed song to date. On official record, it is by far the second most viewed official upload of a VOCALOID song, second only to Goodbye Sengen (August 2021).
