History[]
On October 7, 2015, when asked about possible updates for Megpoid English, Noboru Murakami responded that the English bank for GUMI would be updated at a later time but there was no schedule at the time.[1] When asked about what this meant, he replied "this year or next" (2016/2017). In regards to making more than 1 vocal, he noted this may be too difficult.[2] Noboru later stated that there were no current plans to produce any VOCALOIDs, which may likely meant that GUMI's English update was not in production at the time.[3] On February 8, 2019, when asked about productions for VOCALOID5, Noboru replied that there were no plans for the engine.[4]
2022[]
On October 13, 2022, VOCALOID6 was announced and released to the public.[5] AI Megpoid was introduced as one of the newly released voicebanks and was the only previously existing VOCALOID who received a VOCALOID6 update at the time. She was made to be compatible with VOCALOID:AI, a new feature for commercial VOCALOID, as well as the new "Multilingual" function, which allowed lyrics to be sung in a mixture of Japanese, English, and eventually, Mandarin Chinese, using a single voicebank regardless of the recorded base language. AI Megpoid's "mother tongue" was noted to be Japanese, and she can sing in English through the "Multilingual" function.[6] AI Megpoid's design was illustrated by Nou, which was noted to pay respects and homage to Masami Yuuki's past GUMI designs, particularly for VOCALOID2 and V3 Megpoid - Native as the V6 voicebank was closest to "Native".[7] AI Megpoid was made available as digital and physical copies, as well as a VOCALOID6 Starter Pack.[8]
On October 17, Noboru tweeted that on the Japanese VOCALOID Shop, AI Megpoid was only sold on its own. The starter pack version was in consideration for a future addition to the shop.[9]
2023[]
On February 15, 2023, VOCALOID6 was updated to version 6.1.0, carrying out support for Mandarin Chinese song synthesis among other updates. For AI Megpoid specifically, not only was she capable of singing in Mandarin Chinese through the "Multilingual" function, but she was reported to have an improved synthesis quality.[10]
