Unfortunately there are ways around the limit edits and for legitimate editors who aren't doing this... Being limited on editing is kinda annoying. Why punish everyone for the sake of one editors actions?
Kim's been the only badge farmer anyway thus far, least who was obvious on their actions. We may never get someone like her again, we may get many, honestly who knows... The wikia is still quite young, all things considered. Community-wise, its just kicking off and we're slowly getting newbies in that aren't regulars who've been here for more then a couple of years. Hell I'm starting to see more editors who are regulars, but unknown to me personally and I've been here as a editor since mid-2010.
I wonder worry either way, I'm sure if someone from the wiki staff thinks someone is farming, then that person will be let known fair enough. Normally a chance is given for them to explain their habits anyway. Kim flat out also admitted to badge farming.
The badges are kinda neat for trivia sakes, and are an award for being a good editor. Thats all. They are just for fun and have no solid value in any way. If you farm them, you won't be any better off then if you don't. Thats kinda the whole issue with farming.
They were turned on originally because sometimes seeing that badge pop up is kinda put a smile on ones face. :-)
