Bruno is a Spanish VOCALOID developed and distributed by Voctro Labs, S.L., and was released in December 2011 for the VOCALOID3 engine. He, along with Clara, were among the first Spanish voicebanks commercially distributed. His voice provider has never been revealed.
As of June 2018, Voctro Labs confirmed that he was one of the Spanish vocals featured in their own B2B (business-to-business) engine Voiceful.[2]
Concept[]
Etymology[]
Bruno is a male given name. Its comes from Brunus, a Latin word with Germanic origin meaning "brown or brunette".[3]
Appearance[]
His initial concept and overall appearance were done by Raimon Benach, including his iconic fedora.
When the illustration contest was performed, the Spanish company requested to the participants to keep the overall design of the original illustration. Rumple's winning entry was adopted as the new official art.
2014 redesign[]
With the release of the 2014 boxed version, the design had a new revision done by Rumple. The new design had a more confident look, but kept his previous design. Among the major changes, his design is more elaborated, with brighter colors and including some accessories, his hair color now has a lighter hue and his body frame is different.

History[]
Marketing[]
Bruno and Clara are aimed at Spanish music professionals and are the first VOCALOIDs aimed at Spanish culture. They do not incorporate the moe-esque[4] style of some Japanese VOCALOIDs. Their original designs lean more towards a retrospective European art style. This, however, changed due to the response by anime fans being disappointed by the artwork, thus a fanart competition was held.
Voicebanks[]
- Bruno
- Bruno was the first male Spanish vocal and had a mature vocal capable of deep notes. He was also the counter-partner of Clara.

Reaction |
Bruno suffered a backlash based on his original illustration, mainly for lacking an anime-like design or referred to as not having the appearance of a VOCALOID, with some going as far as to label him and Clara as "ugly". However, there have been reports within the Spanish fandom of strong defense from fans of the pair. The voice type itself; however, has been noted to be appealing in general despite the issues some fans had with the boxart. By March 2012, Bruno and Clara were amongst the least popular of the VOCALOID3 voicebanks, though together, they are more popular than Tonio, neither surpassed his popularity when weighed in separately.[5] |
Impact |
The reaction towards the initial artwork had a later impact on future VOCALOIDs, and it was one of the theories put forward as the reason Yamaha rejected the original non-"anime-esque" design for AVANNA.[6] |
Misc |
In 2015 a survey was made based on the popularity of VOCALOIDs on website Nico Video. For the year 2014, Bruno was the 51st most popular VOCALOID; this made him the least popular VOCALOID of all (not including Akikoloid-chan who never saw a commercial release).[7] |
