Calne Ca (骸音シーエ Karune Shii-e) is recognized as a derivative of Hatsune Miku. She was created by the 3D animator Deino. The term "Derivative" is used here to describe a fanmade VOCALOID character that is based on an already existing character.

History & Concept

-About the difference between Ca and Calne Ca-
They are the same machine character. The name Calne Ca is used when Ca is in Vocaloid character cosplay.
—Deino's comment

Deino's original character has led to some confusion about her concept. Deino explains on his homepage that Ca, only in Miku cosplay, is called Calne Ca. The bug on her head is also known to be her best friend. Her first apparition was in the lyric-less music video "Machine Muzik", and since then she has appeared in several PVs.

Etymology

Her name comes from kara (骸, "corpse") and ne (音, "sound"), as well as Ca (シーエ), the chemical symbol of calcium. This is due to Calne Ca being a mechanized skeleton with a skin or casing in the shape of Miku.

Appearance

Calne Ca is basically just a sort of casing in the shape of Miku for the mechanized skeleton Ca (Shii-e). Her most common variation leaves her limbs, left eye, and mouthparts exposed, but she can don a "full-body" casing that makes her physically identical to Miku. In these instances, Calne Ca can be distinguished from Miku by a red iris in her left eye and the isopod on the left side of her head.

In the PV for "Saikin Osen", Ca's mechanical elements are replaced with organic equivalents resembling insect anatomy.

Relations

  • Hatsune Miku: Source of inspiration
  • Chibi Cal-san (ちびカルさん) (aka. Rubidium): Mobile skulls with metal tendons.[1]
  • Magnesium (人型Mg): A six-legged spindly creature with a tail.[2]

Description
Uploaded February 2, 2012 to Nico Nico Douga. Viewers interpret the song and video to be about a girl who is frequently the target of bullying by the students at her school. Over time, she becomes "poisoned" by all of their words, turning her into a "monster", that being Calne who is revealed at the end of the PV.

An official series of Ca figurines have been produced.[4]

During the MIKU EXPO in LA & NY, apparel and accessories were sold for the Halloween Party.[5]
