This article is about the VOCALOID3 software known as a voicebank, dubbed Gachapoid. If you are looking for the VOCALOID character then click here.

History[]

Gachapoid Extend 2011[]

In 2011, it was reported that Gachapoid, Lily and Gackpoid would be considered for updates if there were solid grounds for it. It was later confirmed that all VOCALOID2 vocals would receive VOCALOID3 updates.

Gachapoid V3 2012[]

On December 3, 2012, in conjunction with Megpoid receiving an English update, Lily and Gackpoid were also mentioned in relation to having been considered for English vocals. However, there was no talk of an English Gachapoid in their plans.[1]

Gachapoid V3 2013[]

On December 11, 2013, after a long period of no news, it was tweeted that they had no plans for Gachapoid V3.[2]

Gachapoid V3 2014[]

On August 19, 2014, it was announced during a stream that Gachapoid V3 was starting production.[3]

On August 24, it was stated Gachapoid V3 would only receive a "Native" voicebank and therefore would have no "Extend" voicebanks.[4] On September 9, two demonstrations were uploaded by SSW on YouTube and NicoVideo. On the following day, it was revealed that he would be released on September 17. It was later confirmed through a tweet that Gachapoid V3 would be download only.[5]

According to the Internet co., Ltd product page, the vocal was updated as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of Fuji TV's broadcast of Gachapin. A contest was held to celebrate the launch of Gachapoid V3.

An online songwriting contest hosted by VOCALOID NET for the Gachapoid V3 campaign was held starting from September 19, 2014 and ran to October 31, 2014 in which users could use a free version of Gachapoid V3 to write music.[6] A total of three winners were selected and each recieved a free physical version of the software.[7][8]

Package details as noted:

Improved version of the Gachapoid vocal. This vocal is download only.

The package also contains demo song data and illustrations.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • According to the updated V3 product page, the Gachapoid vocal is tailored for all genres.
  • Updated voice is smoother than the original.
Phonetic notes as noted:
  • Triphones added. This smooths out vowel connections, and is confirmed to be the cause for the improved smoothness overall in the Gachapoid vocal.
Software issues as noted:
  • Even with the voicebank update, Gachapoid V3 maintains the same particular vocal quality than the original VOCALOID2 package, and in consequence the library is not intended to produce realistic or natural sounding results.
  • Going outside the optimum range causes the voice to start loosing the qualities which make it sound like "Gachapin", an issue that was not so noticeable in the VOCALOID2 version. The voice begins to sound more natural whilst it is voice acted, although it is notable that due to being voice acted he always maintains a level of unrealistic qualities to the voice. Further, producers should be aware that as these occurs outside of his "best range" the quality will be lower than within the optimum recommended range given by the developers.

Cross-Synthesis as noted:

Once imported into VOCALOID4, he becomes available for XSY. However, he has no XSY capable voicebanks he can use of his own as he is a single voicebank release. Therefore users will have to purchase addition voicebanks not belonging to Ryuto at all for use of XSY from his XSY group "Internet"

  • From Ver.4.3.0 of the Vocaloid engine, a XSY group "Internet" was added to Vocaloid. All vocals within the "Internet" group can XSY with each other. This vocal release is part of this group. If a User owns one or more vocals within the "Internet" group, XSY between them will open up as a result of owning this release.
    • The group has 8 characters within it that can XSY; Gumi, Camui Gackpo, Ryuto, Cul, Kokone, Chika, Lily and Otomachi Una.
    • The "Internet" group is currently the largest XSY group at 29 voicebanks. If old versions that have since been re-released are removed, there are currently 21 unique voicebanks. These are; "Gackpoid Native", "Gackpoid Whisper", "Gackpoid Power", "Lily Native", "Lily", "Cul", "Kokone", "Gachapoid", "Chika", "Otomachi Una Sugar", "Otomachi Una Spicy", "Megpoid Native", "Megpoid Sweet", "Megpoid Adult", "Megpoid Power", "Megpoid Whisper", "Megpoid Nativefat", "Megpoid Mellowadult", "Megpoid Powerfat", "Megpoid Naturalsweet" and "Megpoid Softwhisper".
    • In total if user was to own every VOCALOID3 and VOCALOID4 XSY capable INTERNET co., LTD vocal, this offers the equivalent of 812 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the combined packages comes to a theoretical 841 voicebanks in total.[9]
  • Note that Users of the updated XSY list have to understand that as confirmed by Internet co., Ltd themselves, depending on the combination of the two vocals a level of extra unwanted noise may be generated.
  • Another note worthy detail on V4 and later vocals compared to V3 vocals within this group is that Internet Co., Ltd. increased the number of triphones from Chika onwards. Thus, many newer vocals do not match sound-for-sound with the older pre-Chika released vocals.
  • Post VOCALOID4 releases were also developed with XSY in mind, so are better for XSY then the older VOCALOID3 releases.
  • In addition to not being built with XSY in mind, VOCALOID3 packages with only 1 vocal in their contents that were released may be even more problematic for XSY. Internet co often made multi-pack releases have a quality that made switching mid-song less noticeable between voicebanks, making them slightly better for XSY then single vocal releases.
  • Note that also "GWL" does not become viable for use with any V3 vocals used as the primarily vocal. This should be considered when using any vocal for XSY within the "Internet" group from V3.
  • Note that no other vocal within the "Internet" XSY group is notorious for their highly unpredictable nature for XSY usage then the Gachapoid V3 voicebank. Results both in a Primary and Secondary vocal XSY role most often produce a strange resulting vocal and he is one of the most likely vocals to do so within the group.
