Background[]
"Help me, ERINNNNNN!!" is a song originating from the Touhou Project series, focusing on the character Eirin Yagokoro, one of the antagonists from the Touhou game Imperishable Night. Lyrically, the song focuses on the fanon depiction of character Kaguya Houraisan as a damsel-in-distress, constantly relying on Eirin for her help.
The song's melody was derived from an OST track titled "Flight of the Bamboo Cutter ~ Lunatic Princess", originally composed by ZUN from Team Shanghai Alice for Imperishable Night, while the lyrics are based off of a meme post on a Touhou related discussion board from the textboard site 2channel. An archive of the original discussion board can be found here.
The song was originally released as an instrumental track with chants on the doujin album Touhou Strike with beatMARIO explaining the hand motions (( ﾟ∀ﾟ)o彡゜) at the beginning, a motion that has since become synonymous with the song. The earliest known appearance of the lyrical version was during the live event Flowering Night in 2006.
Relation to VOCALOID[]
On March 27, 2024, it was announced during the Project SEKAI Broadcast Station's 3.5 anniversary special livestream that the game Project SEKAI COLORFUL STAGE! feat. Hatsune Miku would be having a collaboration with the Touhou Project series. The collaboration announcement featured a list of three songs that would be included in the game, one of which was a VIRTUAL SINGER version of "Help me, ERINNNNNN!", newly arranged by beatMARIO.[1] The April 2024 Project SEKAI Broadcast Station livestream would later reveal that the VIRTUAL SINGER version would be sung by Hatsune Miku with Kagamine Rin & Len, Megurine Luka, MEIKO, and KAITO and that the song would be added to the game on May 5, 2024.[2]
Two days before the song's addition to Project SEKAI, a digital single featuring the cover was dropped online. The single included two versions of the cover, the full version and a "Game size" version. The game size version was also officially uploaded online with a PV while the full version remains exclusive to the single. The PV depicts the Piapro Characters interacting with the Touhou characters in a high school setting all while enlisting Eirin's help with their various problems. The PV has entered the Hall of Fame on Niconico and has exceeded 6 million views on YouTube.
Almost a year later, beatMARIO would upload an English version of the cover to his YouTube channel in celebration of the second collaboration between Project SEKAI and the Touhou Project series.
