IA VOCALOID3 IA ROCKS English (concept) | CeVIO Creative Studio CeVIO AI VoiSona | Songs Albums Notable Originals

This article is about the VOCALOID3 software known as a voicebank, dubbed ROCKS. If you are looking for the VOCALOID character then click here.

History[]

According to the VOCALOID STORE, IA ROCKS began development soon after the original vocal was released and was in development for 2 and a half years. It was built based on the most common complaints users had about the original vocal in an attempt to correct the issues. The vocal was made with an entirely new concept in mind and was made from entirely new recordings. Unlike the original voicebank, Lia found the IA ROCKS vocal to be difficult because her vocal normally lacked power.[1]

At the end of 2013, news began to emerge of a new IA related project that was set to be released some time in spring 2014.[2] This project was revealed to be a new vocal in Japanese with a change of tone. On January 27, 2014, a downloadable demo referred to as "IAα Type C" was released in which 1st PLACE Co., Ltd. requested participation in their feedback campaign from those who wished to take part in helping improve the vocal.[3]

On May 22, it was announced that the official name of the voicebank was IA ROCKS and was due for release on June 27.[4] A PV featuring the voicebank was also released and would be used as the opening for IA Visual Tracks Colorful.

On June 6, the following extras were revealed to be bundled with the software:

  • DVD-ROM including IA ROCKS demo songs, instrumentals, VSQXs and LIVEDRIVE(IA ROCKS ver.) MMD Model + Motion Data
  • IA ROCKS Guide Book
  • Special Sleeve Case
  • Stickers

Several packages were released containing the software apart from the regular edition. The duo package contained both IA's original library and IA ROCKS, while a starter bundle contained both voicebanks and the VOCALOID3 editor.

On June 28, 1st Place aired a livestream to celebrate IA ROCKS' release. 12 demos of the voicebank were shown and also included a showcasing of the products in the IA ROCKS package. On July 2, short versions of these demos were uploaded to 1st Place's SoundCloud.

2015[]

In May 2015, a new package called "IA DAW PACKAGE" was announced. This contained IA and IA ROCKS, the VOCALOID4 version of VOCALOID Editor for Cubase and Cubase AI 8.[5]

2018[]

In 2018 upon the release of VOCALOID5 an upgrade offer was given for those who purchased the "IA DAW PACKAGE". This would upgrade the engine side of the package to VOCALOID5, though IA remains a VOCALOID3 vocal.[6]

Package details as noted:

A new voicebank for IA with a different tone of voice and is reported as overall a lot less like Lia's vocal herself, as she is not normally a strength vocalist.[1] As the name suggests, this vocal is built for rock songs. According to the details on the VOCALOID store, it was made to counter the issues of the original IA vocal, containing adjustments based on information supplied by feedback from users of the original IA vocal. The vocal was made from new recordings by IA's provider, Lia.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • This has a smaller tempo range than the original vocal, though the vocal's singing range is the same as the original.
  • It was developed to be a stronger voice with more clarity, as these were the most common complaints with the original IA vocal.
  • Despite the changes, the opera-esque style of singing from the original IA vocal remains intact.
  • This vocal was ranked among the 5 choices for rock genre music alongside V flower, MAYU, galaco NEO and VY1v4. It was highlighted with the song "Inner Arts" on VOCALOID NET.[7]
  • In an article about Ia on VOCALOID NET, this voice also has clarity over the original voice and is a powerful voice which allows for much expression. It has strong attack and added breath on consonants and is suitable for songs with more tension required.[8]
  • Just as with the normal IA release, IA ROCKS is noted for its large tempo range coverage, allowing the vocal capabilities to cover a variety of genres of music.
    • At 228BPM, IA and IA ROCKS have the fastest tempo range of VOCALOID3.
    • At a total coverage of 165 BPM range, IA and IA ROCKS also have the largest tempo coverage of any VOCALOID3 vocal.
Phonetic notes as noted:
  • Has strong consonants.

Cross-Synthesis as noted:

If both IA and IA rocks are imported into VOCALOID4 then the option to cross-synthesis (XSY) the two vocals is possible.

  • In total the package offers the equivalent of 2 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the package comes to a theoretical 4 voicebanks in total.
  • Note that these vocals were not designed to be used for XSY originally as it was not part of the VOCALOID3 engine functions. Results may be rougher than VOCALOID4 XSY vocals for that reason.
