Revision as of 08:16, 27 May 2011

Karen-T is the Indy music label owned by Crypton Future Media. It was set up to encourage and distribute Vocaloid songs, but also covers non-Vocaloid songs from time to time. Most Vocaloid music is sold via Karen-T. Karen-T supports both English and Japanese text, allowing users overseas to also buy works via the site. There are hundreds of Vocaloid related works on the website and it is the main hub for most Indy musicains using Vocaloids.

Premission

Despite being set up for the sale of Vocaloid songs, premission from the studio has to be granted by each respective Studio in order for the actual sale to occur. For example, until late May 2011, no AH-Software Vocaloids could be used for works sold via Karen-T, with the exception of Iroha (who is joint owned by Sanrio) this ban is now lifted. Zero-G and PowerFX also give allowance for their Vocaloids to be sold via Karen-T.[1][2] Bplats and Internet Co., Ltd also allow the sale of works via their website.

The licensed songs from the album Graduation from Lie featuring Teto Kasane were released for music downloads from Karen-T, under Crypton Future Media, as a special release. This is the first licensed release of any UTAU.[3]

Other information

  • In December 2010, the popular song "Magnet" was removed from sale because of the artwork. Artist Yunomi had been accused of plagiarism when it was discovered that she had traced over photographs from stock images. other works were also removed by the artist. [4]
