Kazehiki (カゼヒキ) is a Japanese VOCALOID developed by the Yamaha Corporation in collaboration with KUZUTOKAZE. He was initially released in prototype form via a limited lottery application in August 2023 for the VOCALOID β-STUDIO VX-β engine, before being released for the VOCALOID6 engine in July 2024. He was originally released in November 2015 as an UTAU voicebank.
His voice is provided by the Japanese UTAU cover artist, illustrator and creator Kurukuru Suuzi (くるくる数字; Kurukuru Suuzi).
Concept[]
Kazehiki is a 12-year-old boy who is noted to always have a cold and sleeps poorly. He is also noted to be faint of heart. He imitates a priest in an abandoned church where the priest is no longer there. The halo on his head is real and has already died. He wants a feather to go to heaven, but he can't grow it. He prays to God every day for a feather to be given to him. He has a timid personality and likes God. He dislikes medicine.[1]
According to Kazehiki's creator Kurukuru Suuzi's KUZUTOKAZE Q&A page, the biblical references were removed from the official VOCALOID6 profile deliberately, despite the initial plan for the UTAU voicebanks having a religious theme, due to the thought that the concept might be difficult for some people to use. As Kazehiki was created when Kurukuru Suuzi was still a child, looking back at it from their current perspective, they felt that a consideration was needed. It was noted that both profiles, with and without these themes, are correct and may be used according to the user's preferences.[2] They also reiterated on Twitter that everything on the VOCALOID's product pages should be used for the VOCALOID editions of Kazehiki due to the UTAU version having a rigid setting and worldview, though was fine with users treating the UTAU characters and VOCALOID characters as the same. Kurukuru Suuzi, however, considers this to be more of a derivative work in regards to the VOCALOID.[3][4]
Kurukuru Suuzi has also requested for users to use only the VX-β and VOCALOID6 illustrations when using those respective voicebanks and prohibits the use of any of the previous UTAU illustrations for content using these voicebanks as a way of avoiding any type of confusion or complication and vice versa, using the VOCALOID illustrations for the UTAU editions is also prohibited.[5][6]
