History

On August 19, 2009, Lily originally appeared on the cover of the CD "anim.o.v.e. 01" before the announcement of her VOCALOID development. Lily was introduced as "Code Name: Lily" on DTM MAGAZINE published in May 2010.[1] The voice source is the lead vocalist of m.o.v.e., Yuri Masuda. The idea of the developing a VOCALOID based on Yuri's voice occurred, as one of the members was a user of VOCALOID. The illustration of Lily's VOCALOID was used on the Anim.o.v.e album while the voicebank was in development.[2][3]

Two official demos, "SUPER SONIC DANCE Lily Ver. With G" and "Gamble Rumble Lily Ver With G" have been released. Camui Gackpo is also used in both of them. "SUPER SONIC DANCE" and "Gamble Rumble" are songs released by m.o.v.e.[4][5]

Internet Co., Ltd. is the distributor and also provides her support for the users. This was also announced by t-kimura (Takashi Kimura), once a member and now a music producer of m.o.v.e, on his Twitter. Lily was released on August 25, 2010, and was designed by KEI.[6][7]

Package details as noted:

She is the voice of Yuri Masuda's anime persona "Lily". Lily is voiced by a professional singer and produces professional singing results. Her voice has a mature and husky tone compared to previous VOCALOID2 female voicebanks, making her more suitable for rock and pop songs.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • She can sing in a low or mid range much better than in a higher one.
  • She has a powerful vocal and was more on par with MEIKO.[9]
  • Lily is also capable of reaching the lowest known optimum vocal range of any female VOCALOID2, reaching as low as #D2.[10]
  • Lily had some quality improvements over Gackpoid and Megpoid.
Phonetic notes as noted:
  • She has some issues related with the phoneme [i]; the vowel combinations that include it tends to be choppy.
  • Although Lily produces clear pronunciation, she has trouble producing a single consonant.[11]
Software issues as noted:
  • A couple of issues impacted the vocal quality although was overall Internet's "best" VOCALOID2 vocal;
    • Her voice is notorious for cutting off during transactions; this causes heavy slurring within the vocal and can make her vocal hard to understand because of it.
    • Her voice has the notorious metallic tone which was common among VOCALOID2 Internet co., Ltd vocals and was caused by general background noise.
    • Has issues with pitching. According to the later V3 Lily package, this vocal had two sets of high pitched recordings. This caused the overall vocal to sound high pitched. This mostly effected her realism and her ability to sound like her provider, but also her ability to match tones in music.[12] It can be fixed with pitch correction software.

Lily VOCALOID2

Demo Version

The demo gave users the ability to test Lily's upcoming software for 30 days for free. This allowed users to test to see if they liked her voicebank enough for purchase. It was issued with DTM magazines September 2010 issue, it was also issued with the ANIM.O.V.E 2nd album.[13]

Some users reported Lily's demo voicebank had a pronunciation problem; she could not carry the "i"s (い) over two notes. Her "o"s (お) could get distorted if followed by "n" (ん). Another reported problem was that her consonants could not be pronounced if left on the end.[14] Due to its wide distribution, it was relatively easy to get a hold of and ended up being cracked quite quickly.
