History[]

livetune is a producer group originally formed by kz and Kajuki-P. Already friends attending the same university, they formed the group so they could combine their VOCALOID tracks on a single CD , since neither had enough to warrant individual releases. The livetune name is derived from Auto-Tune and Ableton Live. The group became associated with Redjuice when he presented kz with fanart for "Strobo Nights"; Redjuice later designed livetune's early album jackets and created the PV for "Last Night, Good Night"(with Hatsune miku).[1]

livetune's first work, "Packaged", was one of Hatsune Miku's most popular early songs and set a model for the personification of VOCALOIDs, along with "Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru" and "Koisuru VOC@LOID" (VOC@LOID in Love). Re:package, which featured "Packaged", was the group's first album upon its release at Comiket 73 in December 2008. On August 27, 2008, the album was released professionally under the label Victor Entertainment, making it the first VOCALOID album to be released by a major label. It ranked #5 on the Oricon charts shortly after. It was followed by Re:MIKUS, a remix album, in March 2009.

Kajuki-P left livetune in 2008 or 2009 to work for CAPCOM, leaving kz the sole member of the group. Since then, kz has released numerous albums and written several anime and game theme songs.[2] Additionally, kz's remix of "Spectrum" was featured on the Japanese release of Zedd's album Clarity.[3]

Livetune is currently signed to the label Toy's Factory. Most of the group's older music has a "light electronic sound", often complemented by piano; however, in more recent years kz's style has shifted more towards mainstream house music. Livetune's most notable Vocaloid works include the aforementioned "Packaged", "Last Night, Good Night", "Yellow" (one of the theme songs of Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- 2nd), "Weekender Girl" (in collaboration with Hachioji-P), and "Redial". The vast majority of livetune's VOCALOID songs feature Hatsune Miku.

The circle's most well-known song, "Tell Your World", was originally uploaded to YouTube in December 2011 as the audio for a Google Chrome commercial. The full version of the song was uploaded to YouTube on March 12, 2012. The two videos combined have over thirteen million views. Released on March 14, 2012, the Tell Your World EP peaked on the Oricon charts at #4.
