History[]

Since March 15, 2016, Macne Nana's official twitter account posted hints that a surprise would be announced on March 28. In the meantime, the staff posted cards that showcased the 4 of clubs, a picture of Macne Petit, and AH-Software's logo.[1]

On March 28, MI7 Japan Inc. and AHS officially announced that Nana was updating to the VOCALOID4 engine and that her sister, Petit, would be joining her. It was confirmed that Nana's Japanese and English voicebanks would undergo changes that focused on editing the waveforms. As for Petit, she would only receive a Japanese voicebank. Nana's VOCALOID3 voicebanks would be discontinued on March 31 and the VOCALOID4 packages were expected to be released in the second half of 2016.[2] There would be a discounted price for customers who purchased Nana's VOCALOID3 voicebanks. The VOCALOID4 package was initially introduced as "Macne Nana Plus".[3]

Nana and Petit's V4 concept art was revealed on September 15.[4] On September 21, Nana and Petit's first demo was uploaded on SoundCloud. The icon for the song featured a zoomed-in preview of the finalized design.[5]

On November 10, Nana and Petit's VOCALOID4 designs were revealed and Nana's Japanese voicebank was relabeled as Nana "NATURAL". The designs were drawn by Umetani Atarō, the artist who designed Kaai Yuki and Hiyama Kiyoteru.[6] It was also noted that Macne Petit was referred to by her original name, "Macne Nana Petit". Preorders were made available and it was possible to purchase all three voicebanks in one package or individually. Physical and downloadable versions were confirmed as well as a starter pack for the complete package.[7] Nana and Petit were scheduled to release on December 15.[8]

Package details as noted:

The updated version of Macne Nana. This package includes the additional vocal of Petit, a new vocal based on the character of Macne Petit.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • All vocals have GWL.
  • All 3 are intended to sound "bright and cheerful".
  • The tempo range has greatly been increased by 100BPM compared to her previous VOCALOID3 versions. This allows her to handle far more genres of music then before.
  • The similar vocal ranges and tempos allow for better switching between the 3 vocals mid-song.
  • At 277 BPM, the Nana V4 release is the fastest set of vocals for a VOCALOID ever released. This means all 3 vocals can handle fast-paced songs with relative ease and their pitch will not suffer for it as much as other VOCALOIDs.
  • The tempo range spans 200 BPM, this is the largest tempo span of any VOCALOID ever released for the software.
  • The vocal range of the Nana vocal has been increased, allowing for Nana to now fill more vocal roles then before and access more tone ranges.
  • At 39 keys, the optimum vocal range of these vocals are the largest of any VOCALOID release so far. The only other VOCALOIDs that can cover 39 keys is Otomachi Una's "Spicy" vocal.

Cross-Synthesis as noted:

  • Despite Nana and Petit being separate characters they can share XSY between them making them the first individual vocalists that can do this.
    • In total the package offers the equivalent of 2 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the package comes to a theoretical 4 voicebanks in total.
  • The English voicebank is a single release unlike the Japanese vocal and has no partner XSY vocal. Therefore users will have to purchase addition voicebanks from the XSY group "AHS English" to use the feature at all.

  • From Ver.4.3.0 of the VOCALOID engine onwards, a XSY group "AHS" was added to VOCALOID. All vocals within the "AHS" group can XSY with each other. This vocal release is part of this group. If a user owns one or more vocal releases within the "AHS" group, XSY between them will open up.[9][10]
    • The group has 8 characters within it that can XSY: Yuzuki Yukari, Macne Nana, Macne Petit, Tohoku Zunko, Hiyama Kiyoteru, Nekomura Iroha, SF-A2 miki and Kizuna Akari.
    • The "AHS" group is currently the second largest XSY group within VOCALOID, having a total of 14 voicebanks that can XSY with each other. If old versions that have since been re-released are removed, there are currently 12 unique voicebanks. These are: "Yuzuki Yukari Jun", "Yuzuki Yukari Onn", "Yuzuki Yukari Lin", "SF-A2 miki", "Tohoku Zunko", "Macne Nana", "Macne Petit", "Kizuna Akari", "Hiyama Kiyoteru Natural", "Hiyama Kiyoteru Rock", "Nekomura Iroha Natural" and "Nekomura Iroha Soft".
    • In total if a user was to own every VOCALOID3 and VOCALOID4 AH-Software vocal within the "AHS" group, this offers the equivalent of 182 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the combined packages comes to a theoretical 196 voicebanks in total.
  • Note that also "GWL" does not become viable for use with any V3 vocals used as the primarily vocal. This should be considered when using any vocal for XSY within the "AHS" group from V3.
  • Also note that the updated vocals that brought a VOCALOID from VOCALOID3 into VOCALOID4 provided few differences, aside from adding GWL. Therefore these updates can provide little difference when used for XSY.
    • The two sister voicebanks have a large tempo range allowing them to match up with most of the AHS group vocals, with only the Yuzuki Yukari V4 package being too slow for them to match perfectly. This makes them ideal for secondary XSY roles among the AHS group as their vocals remain stern and avoid collapsing at faster speeds.

  • In June 2017 a new XSY group for English was created for AHS Software vocals. All vocals within this group are compactiable with each other for XSY purposes. This vocal release is part of this group. If a User owns one or more vocal releases within the "AHS English" group, XSY between them will open up.
    • In total this group offers the equivalent of 2 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the group comes to a theoretical 4 voicebanks in total.
    • This is currently the smallest of the multiple character XSY groups, with just 1 character in it currently; Macne Nana
    • There are currently 2 unique voicebanks within this group; "Macne Nana English" and "Macne Nana English V4"
  • Note that the addition of this group did not open up GWL for Macne Nana VOCALOID3.

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • GWL added.
    • The vocal was greatly improved over the VOCALOID3 version.
    Software issues as noted:
    • Many of her issues are with her "natural accent versus distinct sounds" which persist in this version as was present in her older voicebank. Producers need to be aware of her lack of distinction on sounds, despite her smoothness and natural sounding of those sounds.

    Package details as noted:

This is a newly recorded vocal based on the character of Nana's sister, "Petit". She sings in Japanese.

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • She has a different texture and is intended to sound like a "little sister" but is the same singing style as her older sister.
    Software issues as noted:
    • Users of the older versions of Petit may note the difference in how she sounds between past versions Garage Band, Reason and Petit 2S UTAU vocal. The reaction to Petit's vocal can come off a surprise for this reason, as the VOCALOID vocal may at times sound entirely different. This was a similar issue to the Macne Nana V3 vocal. Petit has the advantage over Nana when transferred into VOCALOID owed to her creation process as a character as originally she lacked a unique vocal of her own.
