我的中文不太好。。。 I don't know Chinese that well to have a full conversation with anyone and can only read/write a little. However, do not allow this to intimidate you into not asking me questions or talking to me. I don't mind if you write to me in Chinese, in fact, I encourage everyone to write in the language they are most comfortable with, but I will take a lot longer to respond back.

  • I found information about a new Chinese voice synthesis software called MUTA, and one of their characters is named Yanxi (嫣汐).

    Here's her website: ai-muta.com

And here's more info about her: Baidu Wiki

I know this isn't the place to include her, but...

  • Does there exist some prejudice against virtual idols? I've seen Hez go to a reality show and instantly being critiziced...

  • Have you heard of Gardenia (东方栀子), the infamous "Fake Miku"?

    • I'm just writing draft articles on Chinese virtual idols. Here is one.

    • Oh, that's interesting.

Yeah, TBH I don't know /that/ much about Zhizi. I've only listened to her vocals when adding covers in derivatives. Majority of the covers listed on the pages are usually going to her for UTAU or Lian Hua for Sharpkey/DeepVocal. So for what it seems, people seem to like using her UTAU at least... or else I would never see her.

Otherwise, I don't know much of her background and I don't dig deep into it. XP

  • Should a blacklist page be created for both of the aformentioned wikias for those who violate/ have violated end user agreements, such as download of Pocaloids, XSY Modding, importation of Vocaloids into UTAU, Plagiarization of others' works, etc.? I feel like such a list would be appropriate, especially in recent times with the rise of importations of Vocaloids into the UTAU software.

  • What's the difference between a VOCALOID and a virtual idol?

Some people use the two terms interchangeably, and don't seem to recognize what sets them apart...

For example, in China, there is Luo Tianyi (a VOCALOID), but there is also Hez (a virtual idol). Hez also sings with a synthesized voice, but speaks with a normal voice. He is signed to an entertainment company and is listed as an artist on their website. He's also had released EPs and some digital singles. He doesn't have as much songs as Tianyi, though, as Tianyi's songs are made by thousands of users and Hez's songs are made by the composers at the company I mentioned.

Could it have something to do with VOCALOID being software? I've always thought of them being only software and the boxart design being only for illustrative reasons (to give the user a hint on what voice would they work with)...

    • A VOCALOID is a voice synthesizer. Any character that runs on the VOCALOID engine is a VOCALOID. It's a franchise and brand owned by Yamaha.

So not any "virtual idol" is a VOCALOID. "Virtual idol" is more of an umbrella term and can be a character who runs on a synthesizer or not. Kizuna Ai is a virtual idol for example because she is a virtual character, but is voiced by a live person. Virtual idols are represented by digital character and would always be seen as one, online and on stage, not a real living person to meet.

So every VOCALOID can be considered a "virtual idol", but not every virtual idol is a VOCALOID.

      Does that make any sense?

    • A little.

      Now I've got another question:

Is it possible for a virtual idol to have something that sets them apart from other virtual idols?

Like a backstory, for example? How where they born and how they came to our world?

Because canonically, Tianyi is an "angel who came down to earth", and Ling and Longya are both siblings and run the family store, and so on... But they seem to have dropped that idea, I think.

    • Some do. Some don't. That is up to the owners to decide.

  • There are some websites we don't have in the links template, namely Jasmine Music Technology (has ~20 demos for Zero-G and Power FX vocaloids) and sites similar to Bandcamp (iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music). Is it alright if we add those?
