History[]

On May 24, 2018, YAMAHA Corporation announced and released Mirai Komachi in collaboration with Bandai Namco Studio, Inc (BNS).[1] According to YAMAHA's product page for her, she was "initially developed to showcase game development technology to the VOCALOID Voicebank". She did not receive any demos at this time.

According to her own website, she was actively being used for in-house technology demonstrations and outside conferences prior to her release.

After her release, BNS confirmed in an email that Mirai Komachi's profile and an English version of the website would be shown to the public later. The company also confirmed that "Mirai Komachi" was actually a nickname for the character rather than her actual name which would later be revealed.[2]

A year after her release, BNS revealed concepts and prototypes of her character design.[3]

Vocal traits as noted:
  • According to YAMAHA's product page, her voice is described to be happy and clean-cut which is suitable for upbeat songs.
  • She has a clear bass to treble range.
  • At 70-200 bpm, she may not have the largest tempo range but she still has a massive tempo range which can cover a huge variety of genres. This also puts her among the group of Vocaloids with the largest tempo ranges in Vocaloid.
Software issues as noted:
  • Mirai Komachi has issues standing out from past Vocaloid due to her being from a type of vocal that has become fairly common among Vocaloid releases. This has been commented on both inside and outside of Japan making it a notable issue.
    • This is also notable as the recording style of VOCALOID4 changed after this issue became a problem in VOCALOID3, switching to a style that captured more of the vocalists traits. This allowed Vocaloid vocals to stand out from each other even among their same type group as they would not behave the same way as each other. This applies to Mirai as she was made using the new recording methods and though will sound similar to them, she should behave much more uniquely to them.
    • At the time of her release, she lacked demos to showcase any traits she had to separate her from her group type.
