Prima is an English VOCALOID developed and distributed by Zero-G Limited, and was released in January 2008 for the VOCALOID2 engine. Prima is advertised as a "virtual vocalist modeled on the voice of a professional soprano opera singer"; her voice provider has never been revealed.
In January 14, 2008 Zero-G released its first Vocaloid 2 product, Prima. What made Prima different from the Vocaloids before her was that her voice was modeled after a professional soprano opera singer. This means she can hit high notes with accuracy and ease. And though she is meant for opera, with a few adjustments Prima's voice is suitable for pop and R&B.

When Prima was released in Japan on February 22, 2008, she was often used as a back up singer for Japanese Vocaloid songs. Later on Prima was the first English Vocaloid to be included in the Lipync model series.

Etymology
 +
The name "Prima" comes from the term "Prima donna," meaning "first lady." It is an Italian term used to describe the female with the leading role in a theatrical and opera production. It also refers to the one with the most talent, who was usually a soprano singer.

Officially, Prima has no character concept. Instead, the photo on the box is an image of a model photographed by Ivan Grlic (bg_knight), who has works submitted to various stock photo websites. Prima's Taiwan design is loosely based on the Chinese opera style of costumes. Prima's outfit itself is based on a theatrical representation of an animal, most likely a Huli jing (fox spirit), based on the shape of the "tail" and ears. Her body has an android appearance with visible joint lines.

The LipSync model portrayed Prima as an extremely pale girl wearing a dark red dress, and a white flower in her short, wavy, black hair. Another well known images features Prima in a white trench coat, a skirt with stockings underneath, and a top hat to complete the look.

Relations
Prima was given a yandere personality by the Western fandom due to the fact that when people tried to illegally download vocaloids, such as Miku and Len/Rin Kagamine, they had to download Prima to get the program in English. However, the illegal downloads of Prima didn’t have proper confirmation codes, causing not only Prima to stop working but other Vocaloid programs as well. Basically if you couldn’t keep her you couldn’t keep any vocaloids.

Prima was one of Zero-G's professionally aimed voicebanks, and as such, her boxart and voice are not aimed at the general VOCALOID fandom. Her boxart is from a stock image. After increased interest began to occur in VOCALOIDs and demand rose, Zero-G began reselling LOLA, LEON, and MIRIAM, from their own website via their virtual shop. It is said the Prima’s character item is wine, but because of her yandere nature you’ll more likely see fanart of her holding a weapon rather than an alcoholic beverage.
