Background[]

This is not the promised end.
—Author's note

"Sleeping Beauty" is the third place entry of the VOCAMERICA Prima original song contest. According to the description, bright pronunciation in Prima's operatic style was a focus.

Lyrics[]

I've slept a hundred years in wait
Lying down with no escape
Breathing in the dusty scape
Of a room void from the warmth of day

A hundred stairs between the space
Spiral tower, prison state
Oh why did my prince never show
I traveled down, I have to know

The cobblestones are rickety and weak
Of flesh and bones, the witch's curse to speak
The tattered halls, fire scorched and burnt
Of bloodied walls and stories never learnt

Your lies follow me into a world
Of bleeding skies
This is not her fairy tale
Her eyes staring back like sunken holes
I played my part
They had their roles
So why is it I'm anything but whole

Anything but whole

I'm anything but whole

I've roamed the empty village streets
A path that met where devils greet
I followed trails and prints of feet
To see history just repeat

A hundred steps led to this place
A memory I tried to chase
Inside the wretched crystal vase
The water formed into a face

A happy end promised by her hand
A war to end, a marriage oh so grand
A deal was struck, written in a curse
The devil's luck had gone up in a verse

Her lies led her into a world
Of bleeding skies
This is not the promised end
Her eyes
Hollowed out and sunken in
She failed her part
There was no win
A hundred years
To pay for all

Her lies
Her precious world will end just like
The crying skies
This is not her fairy tale
Her eyes
Dead and cold like coffin holes
She played her part
They had their roles
And now the witch
Owns all one hundred souls
