Are you still watching? Are you still watching? Are you still watching? Are you still watching? Are you still watching? Are you still watching? Are you still watching? Are you still watching? Are you still watching? Are you still watching? This is how it should be. Are you still watching?

"Static" is an original song by music group FLAVOR FOLEY featuring Hatsune Miku. This is their second work using VOCALOID following their previous work of "ELECTRIC WEEKEND ZONE". The song is themed mostly on nostalgia, refusing to move on from it and can't let go of the past.

The song had sparked various interpretations among various listeners, whether by literal or symbolic.

In the agreed literal reading, it tells the story of a cartoon character (portrayed by Miku) who pleads with the viewer not to change the channel. The character who feels to have been abandoned or being forgotten, growing more and more desperate, begging the viewer to keep watching so they can stay together forever, even though the character exists only on a television screen or even the viewer themselves are moving on.

However, In the agreed symbolic reading of both the song and its music video carry an underlying sense of discomfort and nostalgia, evoking feelings of longing for the past, old media, or childhood memories as the music video is styled in a bright, colorful cartoon aesthetic, using vivid, playful visuals that contrast sharply with the unsettling emotional tone beneath the surface.

There are interpretations such as the relationship between the character and the viewer (or listener). One suggests a toxic, dependent dynamic, highlighted by repeated lines like "This is how it should be" or "Are you still watching?", Implying the character clings to the viewer's attention to keep watching. and another paints on tragic light, where the character has accepted being forgotten but still longs for the show to continue as it once was, even if no one is watching. Both perspectives point to an unhealthy attachment, a sense of being constantly observed, and a desperate refusal to move on, believing things could stay the same forever.

While many listeners connect with these darker, nostalgic and unsettling layers, the meaning of this song ultimately remains open to each person’s interpretation.

Five days after this song's release, on May 30, 2025, "Static" gained 1 million views on YouTube. Making it the first FLAVOR FOLEY song reaching this milestone that is sung by a VOCALOID synthesizer. As of June 20, 2025, this song currently gained over 5 million views.

Lyrics[]

One two three, tap your feet
Such a classic melody
One two three, you know the words
So sing along with me!

One two three, motley scenes
Shining through the silver screen
One two three, dontcha think
This is how it ought to be?

Just another day, throw your cares away
And laugh hand-in-hand with me!
Just another day,
Just another day,
It’sjustanotherdayit’sjustanotherdayit's–

One two three, what’s the nicest thing you see?
It’s me!!!!!!!!!!

The world you know, always running to and fro
A frightful place to be
But don’t be scared, I’m not going anywhere!
So just don’t touch the dial and stay here awhile with me!

Panic! In static! Out-manic!
Don’t you find it all romantic, the way things used to be?
Classic, ecstatic, it’s magic
To trip the light fantastic, repeat it after me!

This is how it should be, in studio seats
My ego wired in the CRT
We can skip the sign-off
Ol' familiar scene, repeating
This is how it should be!

One two three, sing with me
It’s a catchy melody
ABC, it sounds so sweet
When you sing along with me!

Four five six, check the script?
Keep your harmony in-key
Ten nine eight, for the sake
Of the way it ought to be

Just another day, throw your cares away
And laugh hand-in-hand with me!
Just another day, just another day of
Keeping our company!

Who cares what people say, we’ll stay another day in revelry, reverie!
Always be together, fair and stormy weather
Never growing older, never growing colder
Always be together, now and for forever
evereverevereverevereverever-

One two three, who’s the brightest star you see?
It’s me.

The world you know never seems to take it slow
A tiring pace indeed
So don’t delay, I’ll be here to save the day
Just please don’t touch the dial
Just stay here a while with me

Panic! In static! Out-manic!
Don’t you find it all romantic, the way things used to be?
Classic, ecstatic, it’s magic
To trip the light fantastic, repeat it after me!

This is how it should be, in studio seats
My ego wired in the CRT
We can skip the sign-off
Ol' familiar scene, repeating
This is how it should be!

When you go,
Just don’t change the channel
I hope you won’t be long

After all
I want to be wanted
Is that so wrong?

Panic! In static! Out-manic!
Don’t you find it all romantic, the way things used to be?
Classic, ecstatic, it’s magic
To trip the light fantastic, repeat it after me!

This is how it should be, in studio seats
My ego wired in the CRT
We can skip the sign-off
Ol' familiar scene, repeating
This is how it should be!

This is how it should be, in studio seats
My ego wired in the CRT
We can skip the sign-off
Ol' familiar scene, repeating
This is how it should be!

This is how it should be.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike other FLAVOR FOLEY songs, this is the song that oddly doesn't have personal description from each producers even unlike ELECTRIC WEEKEND ZONE where there are members of FLAVOR FOLEY adding their own descriptions (even with CircusP), this song's upload does not.
  • Listeners had quickly pointed out that the song, whether inside or outside of it had a lot of varrying details including no limited to refrences of relations to Hatsune Miku or other things for the themes of the music video, these ones are:
    • At 0:59-1:07 and similar sections, Miku uses semaphore, a visual signaling method, to spell "DON'T GO".
    • Depending on the time zone, this song was intentionally released on a Saturday, premiering since 10 AM (ETC). this kind of release is refrenced from a tradition on television, where Saturday Morning Cartoons had aired, up until it's premeired on 9 AM[4][12]
    • There is the detail by the phrase Miku uses "It's me!" certain timestamps,
      • The first "It's me!!!!" is from timestamp 0:39 which is refrencing as the iconic Miku Number.
      • The second "It's me." is from the timestamp 2:07 which is refrencing the year when Miku was initially released (August 31, 2007).
        • Additionally the phrase "It’s me!" is a subtle pun, the "me!" part sounds like "Miku" but without the "-ku" (so essentially it's "me(-ku)!"), making it a subtle self-reference in her name.
    • From the "live action" parts at the bridge of the song (2:57), it only shows three clips with first is just a footage of a field of grass but the last two clips are flowers, which their themes are relevant to the song,
      • The second clip shows a Sunflowers, which represent longetivity and loyalty (the past).
      • The third and last clip shows Cherry Blossoms (AKA: Sakura), which represent fleeting nature of life and new beginnings (the present).
    • Depending how YouTube views it, the song's actual duration is 4:04, which these exact numbers referencing the HTTP 404 Error.
  • At 1:30-1:31, Although it's not noticeable at first, this part is sampled from a popular YouTuber Jerma985 where he does "freddy fazbear impression".
    • Note: Jamie Paige often sampling Jerma985 from their other songs.
  • rice revealed that after a recent famous animator Kino Hisa (known as the animator who made the music vieo Hai Yorokonde), that Kino Hisa was their inspiration to the whole Static music video, along with making a commmemorative fanart from it.[10]
