Vocaloid Wiki

The "Status on VOCALOID" page acts as a guide for readers and editors alike. The "Status" page lists all the voicebanks produced using VOCALOID technology; this includes any commercial releases, announcements, developments, and projects involving the VOCALOID franchise.

For a list of all "VOCALOIDs" and their concepts, see VOCALOIDs.
For more information on how vocals are developed, see VOCALOID Development.

Commercial license releases[]

The most commonly known VOCALOIDs are the commercially sold units produced by third party studios. These VOCALOIDs are produced under license by YAMAHA and are able to be bought by any bidding producers through commercial outlets. Their quality and capabilities vary, as do the licensing agreements issued by the respected studios involved.

There is a subpage available. Arranged by order of releases.

Current developments[]

It takes approximately 4 hours in total for a Japanese VOCALOID to be recorded. An English VOCALOID can take from a week to over a month to record all its samples. Pieced together during more than 4 months of tuning and assembling the software together, in addition to the possibility of a second set of recordings being made for better sample selection, a VOCALOID may take anywhere from 6 months to over 2 years to complete.

Furthermore, until consent is given, VOCALOIDs cannot be talked about by staff or their vocal providers.[2] This is due to legal grounds and therefore, fans must be made aware of this and respect the process involved in making just one of any of the VOCALOIDs.

YAMAHA will also not acknowledge any VOCALOID that has yet to be licensed. Therefore, a vocal may have been made in VOCALOID itself, but has yet to be licensed. Bear this in mind on all unreleased and upcoming projects.

Engine aims[]

A few things had been announced for the future of VOCALOID itself;[3]

  • More languages were in planning, with French, Portuguese, and Italian being considered at various points in time.
  • More human-like, "ultimately toward AI"; this was achieved in VOCALOID6. See VOCALOID:AI.
  • Better note inputs, to make ways of using the editor more fun.
  • Better suitable for more genres of music.
  • More innovative than the V4 engine.

Announced Vocals[]

These are VOCALOID voicebanks known to be in production. Their status and licensing are unknown, but most are presumed to have commercial licenses.

Product Developer Summary
AYA, KENJI, YUKA, HAYATO, KAZUYA, KANA, and two unnamed vocals YAMAHA Corporation

On October 13, 2022, a DTM livestream was launched following the release of VOCALOID6. The livestream confirmed that a total of sixteen new vocals were upcoming at the time, all with their own color themes. Eight of the vocals (AYA, SAKURA, NAOKI, ASAHI, KENJI, SHION, YUKA, and HAYATO) had revealed designs, while four had revealed names (YUINA, KAZUYA, KANA, and TAKU) but the designs were not yet available. The remaining four did not have a confirmed name or design. It was confirmed that these products would be a variety of Japanese and English vocals that would be added as free updates.[4][5]

On December 25, 2023, SAKURA, ASAHI, SHION, and TAKU were released.[6] On February 19, 2024, MICHELLE and LUCAS, two of the four vocals without confirmed name or design during that DTM livestream, were released.[7] On October 9, YUINA and NAOKI were released.[8]

WhiteCUL ZAN-SHIN Co., Ltd.
(Internet Co., Ltd.)

A crowdfunding campaign for a VOCALOID6 AI voicebank for WhiteCUL was started on May 24, 2024.[9]

On June 27, her crowdfund met its goal of 7 million yen.[10]

And Uge and Kanade Kanon 774 inc.
(YAMAHA Corporation)

On July 18, 2024, it was announced that And Uge and Kanade Kanon would be receiving voicebanks for the VOCALOID6 engine (to be named Uge and Kanade, respectively) and the VX-β engine's final release.[11][12] The release date of these voicebanks was set to around the winter of 2024.[13] The information was also confirmed by their respective voice providers.[14][15]

Kasukabe Tsumugi KasukabeTsumugi Project
(YAMAHA Corporation)

On July 18, 2024, it was announced that Kasukabe Tsumugi would be receiving a voicebank for the VOCALOID6 engine and the VX-β engine's final release.[12] The release date was set to around the winter of 2024.[13] The information was also confirmed by her voice provider.[16]

Hatsune Miku V6 AI Crypton Future Media, Inc.

On August 1, 2024, along with the announcement of the PIAPRO CHARACTERS SUPER PACK for Piapro Studio and VOCALOID4, Crypton Future Media, Inc. announced the development of an AI voicebank for Hatsune Miku to be released for VOCALOID6 in 2024 as well as a new update for Hatsune Miku NT. More details have not since been announced.

Expanded synthesizer development[]

The following are confirmed companies or developers who expressed interest in creating voicebanks or successfully released voicebanks in other synthesizers, but have not yet announced to discontinue VOCALOID development or distribution.

Product Developer Summary
MEIKO, KAITO, Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin & Len, Megurine Luka Crypton Future Media, Inc.

Left VOCALOID to develop their own synthesizing software: Piapro Studio. They are currently in partnership with YAMAHA despite departing VOCALOID, keeping them as counselors regarding voice synthesis.[17][18] Though the switch occurred, their characters would not change who they are. The VOCALOID editions would still be sold in parallel to the Piapro Studio versions.[19]

IA 1st PLACE Co., Ltd.

Released for CeVIO AI (a separate upgrade of CeVIO Creative Studio) as IA Song and IA Song English on October 27, 2021 (her related talk library IA Talk was separately released earlier on March 12, also for CeVIO AI). It's been noted by CeVIO's developers, Techno-Speech, that their new status is more of "expanding possibilities" and creating a new lineup for users rather than an "evolution" from VOCALOID.[20][21]

Yuzuki Yukari Vocalomakets (AH-Software Co. Ltd.)

Also released for CeVIO AI as Yuzuki Yukari Rei on January 29, 2021. It's been noted by CeVIO's developers, Techno-Speech, and Vocalomakets' representative that their new status is more of "expanding possibilities" to users than an "evolution" from VOCALOID.[20][22]

flower Gynoid Co., Ltd.

Also released for CeVIO AI as Ci flower on March 10, 2023. It's been noted by CeVIO's developers, Techno-Speech, that their new status is more of "expanding possibilities" to users than an "evolution" from VOCALOID.[20]

Luo Tianyi, YANHE, Yuezheng Ling, Yuezheng Longya, Zhiyu Moke, Mo Qingxian Shanghai HENIAN Information Technology Co. Ltd.

When asked about considerations for migration to another engine, Vsinger's official Weibo account answered that they had been long studying and made several voicebank demos with tech providers. Different engines are based on different technologies. VOCALOID was based on sampling, which better reproduced the original voice texture, but was less natural and may be harder to use. AI voicebanks were easier for beginners and sing more naturally, but do not sufficiently reproduce the original voice texture and the voice may also sound as though it was synthesized. Vsinger noted that the voice is the most important part of a virtual singer and was trying to find ways to preserve and reproduce the characters' original voices, wishing to deliver more satisfactory products.[23] As of May 6, 2023, all six cast members were announced to have AI voicebanks made for ACE Virtual Singer, with Tianyi, YANHE, Ling, and Longya having functional public beta voice libraries available.[24][25][26][27] On July 1, 2022, it was confirmed that Tianyi would also be produced for X Studio as a speech voicebank.[28][29]

Tohoku Zunko, Tohoku Kiritan, Tohoku Itako SSS LLC (AH-Software Co. Ltd.)

Zunko and her sisters (who like her also originally debuted as VOICEROIDs) were released for NEUTRINO, a free AI-based vocal synthesizer. Kiritan was also released for CeVIO AI on February 12, 2021 while Zunko and Itako were released for the same software on January 27, 2022.[30] Zunko later acquired a new talk library for Dreamtonics Co., Ltd.'s new AI-based text-to-speech software VOICEPEAK (which was co-developed with AH-Software Co. Ltd.)[31][32] in January 2023[33][34][35] while Kiritan and Itako (after SSS LLC's most successful crowdfund campaign)[36][37] received their own VOICEPEAK versions in June and October, respectively; each of them comes bundled with a bonus talk voicebank based on Zunko's mascot partner Zundamon.

AH-Software still sells and supports Zunko's VOCALOID4 and VOICEROID+ EX versions, even though it no longer develops new software for VOCALOID or VOICEROID (opting instead to develop new singing vocals for Dreamtonics's Synthesizer V Studio software and new talking vocals for VOICEPEAK).

Haruno Sora, SF-A2 miki, Hiyama Kiyoteru, Kaai Yuki AH-Software Co. Ltd.

After publishing Synthesizer V Studio voice databases (including AI versions for some) of various vocalists that originally debuted as VOICEROIDs but otherwise never had singing voicebanks of their own before (namely, Kotonoha Akane & Aoi, Tsurumaki Maki, Tsuina-chan, and Kyomachi Seika), on May 18, 2023, AH-Software Co. Ltd. decided to revive its last VOCALOID, Haruno Sora (who had a dual VOCALOID5 and VOICEROID2 debut), as an AI vocalist for both Synthesizer V Studio and VOICEPEAK,[38] with release date set for August 24;[39] her VOCALOID and VOICEROID versions are still sold and supported, with no indication of them being discontinued anytime soon.

On December 1's AHS livestream, it was announced that both SF-A2 miki (now simply called miki) and Hiyama Kiyoteru would be receiving AI voice databases for Synthesizer V Studio for their joint 15th anniversary in 2024.[40] With regards to Kaai Yuki, it was noted that it would be very difficult to record a new voice library for her (due to the fact that her original voice provider, who back then in 2009 was a child and as of today still remains unrevealed for legal reasons, is now an adult and her voice quality has changed), and as for using her existing V4 Natural voicebank to derive a new voice database (whether a new Standard voice database from its raw samples or a Synthesizer V Plus-style AI voice database trained from songs performed by it was not mentioned, though), they would still have to first consult with YAMAHA before carrying it out.[41]

GUMI (Megpoid) Internet Co., Ltd.

On September 14, 2023, GUMI's official Twitter account started to post some "complaints" about some limitations of the VOCALOID6 software along with a list of parameters and features she desired YAMAHA to add to the engine.[42] This led several producers and commenters from the vocal-synthesizer fandom to rumorize and suggest whether GUMI (or rather Internet Co. itself) was considering switching to a different singing-synthesis engine, to which GUMI responded that she only presented a feature request without drawing comparisons to other engines.[43]

On November 21, Internet Co., Ltd. announced a Synthesizer V AI version of AI Megpoid, with release date set for December 20.[44] Noboru went on record to say this was not a move from VOCALOID to a new engine, but rather a parallel product that he hoped can be used together with her VOCALOID6 version (as well as any of her past VOCALOID4 versions) to achieve "a variation of GUMI's voice quality and singing style to match the world view of your works".[45][46] In an interview with DTM Magazine, he further elaborated on the reasons for Synthesizer V AI Megpoid, whose development was outsourced to AH-Software Co. Ltd.:[47]

  • The company has not switched from VOCALOID6 to Synthesizer V. They will continue to sell the VOCALOID6 version of Megpoid, which remains their main product. The Synthesizer V version is an addition to their lineup.
  • The decision to develop Synthesizer V was driven by curiosity about how Megpoid would sound on it. The development was requested from AHS without any plans for commercialization at that point.
  • The recording for Synthesizer V was not new. Instead, they used the data recorded for VOCALOID6, believing it would bring Megpoid closer to the desired sound.
  • The Synthesizer V version of Megpoid was not immediately commercialized. After the development was completed in late September, they explained the situation to Yamaha and received their understanding. They also continued to sell the VOCALOID4 version.
  • The Synthesizer V version does not replace Megumi Nakajima with AI Megpoid. Although the singing style is human-like, it is quite different from Nakajima's usual singing style. The voice atmosphere is still very much Megpoid.
  • The Synthesizer V version of Megpoid comes with one voice database. However, it has Vocal Mode parameters that allows for natural changes in singing style.
  • The Synthesizer V AI Megpoid will come with ABILITY4 SE as a bonus. At the time of its release, the Synthesizer V VST will also be updated to be usable.
  • There are currently no plans to release Synthesizer V products for other characters such as Otomachi Una, Gackpoid, Lily, and Kokone. They will consider future developments based on how the Synthesizer V AI Megpoid is evaluated and used by users.
  • They plan to release more VOCALOID6 products in the future.

Ceased development[]

The following are confirmed companies or developers who have ceased VOCALOID development.

Product Developer Summary
Xingchen, Chiyu, Shian, Cangqiong, and Haiyi Beijing Photek S&T Development Co., Ltd.

Moved to Synthesizer V. The reasons were cited as due to licensing costs, development limitations (caused by VOCALOID's regular engine updates) and other general restrictions. Beijing Photek's only VOCALOID, Xingchen, was unable to switch to Synthesizer V Studio until August 2021 after her VOCALOID contract was revoked.[48]

Zhanyin Lorra NetEase Inc.

NetEase's gaming branch was initially collaborating with Shanghai HENIAN Information Technology Co. Ltd. before departing from VOCALOID, which prevented the release of their first VOCALOID Zhanyin Lorra.

Nonavailable PowerFX Systems AB.

Left VOCALOID for unknown reasons. Since 2013, they had been focusing on their own product, Soundation, in conjunction with the release of YOHIOloid, who fared not much better than the majority of their previous successes. PowerFX reported struggles to profit from VOCALOID despite the success of OLIVER.

Ring Suzune Vocaloid Next

Departed from VOCALOID before releasing their first VOCALOID Ring Suzune. Reasons were related to money.

Bruno, Clara,[49] and MAIKA[50] Voctro Labs, S.L.

Left VOCALOID to develop their own vocal synthesizing software: Voiceful. Although MAIKA received satisfactory levels of success, Bruno and Clara were among the least successful VOCALOID voicebanks ever produced. Despite this, they are still currently in partnership with YAMAHA, co-developing VOCALOID's regular engine.[51][52]

Oliver, Audine, and Aurum VocaTone

A sample of a male vocalist developed by VocaTone was showcased early 2016. It was later explained that "ausgris" was a working title.[53] On VocaTone's Tumblr they replied that it's unlikely they will keep the name.[54] A preview of the finished design was revealed on VocaTone's social media [55] and a few details about the product were revealed on Tumblr: the vocalist was described as having a quirky and upbeat voice, able to sing and speak at a low pitch. The vocalist was not a professional singer and sung-spoke the lyrics. The voice was described as "fun to use".[56]

It should be noted that the demo was of a single pitch, more would likely be added if the project continued. VocaTone also had a few ideas on names that would suit them better then "Ausgris".[57] One thing holding back the product was the recent number of young masculine vocals that were being produced at the time of demonstration. VocaTone stated ausgris would be released if there was interest, but would remain untouched for the moment.[58]

A full image of ausgris was revealed on OLIVER's official Twitter account on September 16, 2016.[59] Their release was uncertain at the time.[60] Although originally introduced as a 'young male vocal', ausgris was later confirmed to be agender.[61] On December 10, 2016, VocaTone announced that they were working on a new vocal.[62] When asked about it, they confirmed that it was a separate vocal from ausgris.[63] In July 2017, VocaTone stated that they were making steady progress with 3 potential English vocals, one of which being ausgris.[64]

On December 25, 2020, VocaTone revealed they were working in collaboration with Misbah Studios to create a new vocal synthesizer, Maghni AI, which needed to be funded via Kickstarter.[65] The first two vocalists were revealed to be Audine and Aurum, the latter being the final version of ausgris.[66] Both were expected to be made trilingual in English, Japanese, and Spanish according to their reveal video. In a Q&A with the VocaVerse Discord, when asked about the two other vocals mentioned around Aurum's VOCALOID development, it was revealed that there were actually five vocals in development. The second being Audine, the third being a girl called Era, and another female named Nyx. Audine and the others were never announced due to VocaTone losing the VOCALOID license.[67]

In 2021, VocaTone announced they dropped YOHIO from their list of vocal providers after some dissatisfactory political comments from the singer were made. Until this point, YOHIOloid was considered for an update to VocaTone's new software Maghni AI. It was noted that this meant they no longer had to make a Swedish phonetic list for the software, hinting this was a language they would have covered with the update.[68][69][70][71]

In late December 2023, VocaTone launched a crowdfunding campaign for Maghni AI on the IndieGoGo platform, with the aim to speed up development and release the engine in December 2024 if the US$20,000 goal was met (if the goal were to be unmet, then development would continue but at a slower pace). Aurum, Audine, and Oliver were announced as the first three voicebanks (or "maghnites" as they are called on the crowdfund page) to be available at launch.

CUL, REV, and ROSA VOCALO Revolution
(Internet Co., Ltd.)

On March 20, 2021, Hiroto-P confirmed that ROSA, CUL's younger sister with a pink theme, was in production for a new AI singing and talk synthesizer. She was to be developed in collaboration with ZAN-SHIN Co., Ltd.[72] Hiroto-P later noted that ROSA's singing voicebank would be made for Synthesizer V Studio[73], suggesting that VOCALO Revolution would no longer be producing vocals for VOCALOID.[74]

In response to a fan, Hiroto-P also expressed interest in updating CUL but did not give further details.[75] Depending on if ROSA sold well, REV was in consideration for production.[76]

On May 23, 2021, REV received a speech library for the AI text-to-speech synthesizer TALQu [77][78] and a beta singing library for the DeepVocal singing synthesizer on May 24, 2021[79][80]. He is voiced by Hiroto-P himself and a commercial voicebank for REV is being considered based on his popularity.[81][82]

Unknown association[]

The following are companies or developers whose status with VOCALOID currently remains unknown.

Product Developer Summary
Nonavailable Zero-G Limited

In 2020, Zero-G confirmed that they are not currently making any new VOCALOIDs.

On December 1st, 2023, a year after the release of VOCALOID6, Zero-G responded to a fan confirming that they still don't have any plans in making any new VOCALOIDs.[83]

Restricted access[]

These are vocals that producers have, or currently have limited access to.

Trial versions[]

Trial versions of voicebanks are often released to act as a method of users testing to see if they like the vocal. Trial versions tend to have restrictions such as limited day usage or limited functions. Often they have other issues with them, such as they are made from beta versions of the software. Producers making demos might also be issued Beta versions of pre-released VOCALOIDs or even the full version of the software.

This section contains those that were made able to be accessed by the general public, in many cases, the demo is only given out for a limited amount of time or issued on a limited number with a magazine or other means. All other pre-released versions or unreleased versions are listed elsewhere in the "Restricted Access" section. On occasion, a VOCALOID may also come with demo versions of other VOCALOIDs made by the same studio which may or may not be declared prior to purchase, in this case they may be absent from this page because of the difficulty in confirming them.

VOCALOID trials[]

Retired voicebanks[]

There are some VOCALOID voicebanks that were available commercially that have now been removed from sale or will be removed from sale in the near future. Vocals that have seen retirement may continue to be sold for some time after their initial retirement; however, they are on limited supply and will sell only while the stock lasts. Their usage is limited to those who are able to access these vocals before or since their retirement, as no new stock has been released containing their vocals.

Please note that when a new version of the engine is released, there is a risk of support for older versions being removed. They may or may not be removed from sale. Currently all VOCALOID and VOCALOID2 vocals are considered "retired" completely, even if they are still able to be purchased and a lack of support may be seen for their vocals.

Xingchen Beijing Photek S&T Development Co., Ltd. As of Spring 2022, it was noted on Quadimension's Taobao shop that Xingchen's VOCALOID4 packages were scarce and the company warned that once the packages ran out, they would be not restocked. The voicebank was replaced with Xingchen Infinity, an AI voice database for Synthesizer V Studio, on February 20, although this version was noted to have a different sound and texture due to the difference in recording method and engine processing.[92] Suggested workarounds to have the AI voice database sound closer to the VOCALOID4 version was provided.[93] Around January 2023, a user noticed that Xingchen's VOCALOID4 packages were officially noted to be out of stock.[94]

In March 2013, several VOCALOID3 products were announced as being retired from the VOCALOID on-line shop. These included the VOCALOID3 engine itself, VY1v3, VY2v3, Tone Rion, Aoki Lapis and Mew. They were replaced with "SE" (Second Edition) versions with the most up-to-date version of the VOCALOID3 engine available, plus 3 new plug-ins there were also available for download from the VOCALOID shop. Aside from this, there were no additional differences between the products and users with the older versions did not need to purchase the new "SE" products.[95]

Private licenses[]

Private voicebanks are created under license for non-commercial use. Private vocals are much harder to confirm than commercially released vocals and their progress is impossible to determine; however, they are becoming more and more common. The voicebanks in the section are listed by VOCALOID engine era. Unlike commercially released vocals, private vocals are only allowed to be used by producers who have been given permission and are hired to create songs for use by the license holders.

There were no known private licenses released during the VOCALOID era. However, the original intention of the engine was to be released only as a privately licensed product; this did not happen because Crypton Future Media was able to convince YAMAHA it was more beneficial to release VOCALOID as a commercial product. Therefore, it is known that this kind of licensing was considered for the software from the start and would have been Vocaloids original intention.

During the VOCALOID2 era of development, YAMAHA began to test the waters to see if it was profitable to create VOCALOIDs for private use and began to develop VOCALOID-flex as a means to allow VOCALOID to extend its capabilities beyond just singing. A number of vocals were created in the VOCALOID2 era; take note this does not mean they were using the VOCALOID2 software. After VOCALOID3 was released, YAMAHA sought to make the licensing of such vocals more common. A number of vocals were created in the VOCALOID3 era; take note this does not mean they were using the VOCALOID3 software.

Product Developer Summary
"AI" Kojima Productions A VOCALOID-flex voicebank was used in the game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.[96][97] This was the first private license of VOCALOID known to have been announced commercially. Due to popular misconceptions, its name was believed to be "ZEKE" after the "Gear" (the games name for its Mecha) "ZEKE" as it is the most frequent Gear the player will know within the game. The vocal is simply referred to as "AI" and is incorporated into various AI weapon enemies throughout the game such as the Pupa, Chrysalis, Cocoon, and the titular Peace Walker.[98] AI was voiced by two voice actresses, both in English and Japanese, by Kikuchi Yumi in the Japanese version of the game and Christine Kogure for the English version.[99][100] A special three-month campaign was held in collaboration with VOCALOID NET where users could submit words, phrases and singing samples that would be used as dialogue spoken by the AI weapon enemies.[101]
Akikoloid-chan Lawson, Inc. LAWSON convenience store chain's mascot, "Akiko-chan" received a makeover and synthesized voice on the VOCALOID3 engine to become "Akikoloid-chan," who acts a navigator for LAWSON's Niconico channel. Commissioned albums using her voice have been granted. On July 23, 2014, it was revealed that her usage in music had been discontinued. Despite this, she will remain as a public character representing LAWSON.
Ueki-loid Music Airport Inc. Older Male VOCALOID, Ueki-Loid was the first attempt to resurrect a dead singer and had the voice of the late singer Hitoshi Ueki. It was stated that this vocal will never be released commercially. Ueki-loid was made to demonstrate the capabilities of the VOCALOID software. He was VOCALOID3. Also, his creation marked the start of a new series of vocals called "Legend of VOCALOID".
hide Headwax Organization Co., Ltd. "hide" also had a vocal revival similar to Ueki-loid. hide died in 1998, and was the guitarist of group "X-Japan".[102]
AZUKI & MATCHA SEGA Kobayashi Matcha and Masaoka Azuki, characters in the Project 575 series made by SEGA, were confirmed to have voices using the VOCALOID2 software.[103] They were both given VOCALOID4 updates for commercial release in July 2017.
ONA Voctro Labs, S.L. ONA was revealed to be an alternate mascot using VOCALOID MAIKA's voicebank,[104] marketing more heavily on the Catalan capabilities of the software. She was later confirmed to be used for concert purposes only.[105] Before Voctro Labs confirmed that ONA used MAIKA's software, it was originally stated that she was a Catalan Vocaloid; but this has since been debunked.
Anri Rune Fuji TV Anri Rune originally started as a virtual announcer for Fuji Television. In 2013, she received a VOCALOID voicebank and debuted with her demo song "Hallelujah Super Idol". Afterwards, she slipped into limbo for a long period of time. She was eventually confirmed to be a private vocal and would never sell.
Kojiloid Crypton Future Media, Inc. Kojiloid (コジロイド) is a private English VOCALOID vocal produced as a guide by Crypton Future Media. The voice provider is known by the surname of "Kojima" (コジマ), Kojima was a English teacher who was brought on for the Miku English project team. It was part of a resource pack made in the development of Hatsune Miku English and was created as a guide on how to pronounce words and mimics the way Kojima speaks.[106]
Unnamed voicebank based on Kabanagu YAMAHA Corporation

On August 25th, 2023, an artist by the name of Kabanagu posted a use case demo for an unknown VX-β voicebank.[107][108] As later clarified in tweets from the official VOCALOID β-STUDIO Twitter account and Kabanagu himself, this was an experimental voicebank built on samples from his album "ほぼゆめ", with a full release for the voicebank being undecided.[109] [110]

L ARS (AI Resonate Society)

L was a VX-β voicebank created by ARS in partnership with Yamaha for use in an event titled "VX-β作家ソン".[111] From March 7th, 2024 onward, creators participating in the event were to post demos of its usage in an effort to encourage others to sign up for the event. The event took place on April 6th and 7th, with participants being given a special version of VX-β that allowed for it to be used beyond the expiration date.[112]

L's voice provider was stated to be Elley, a Korean singer and songwriter living in Japan.[113][114] Elley would later become the voice provider for Topaz, an AI voice database announced to release for Synthesizer V Studio in October.

Exclusives/Limited[]

Since the start of the VOCALOID3 era, a new type of release appeared; exclusive/limited vocals. These are given out in limited numbers or in exclusive events as prizes; they are not for sale. Thus, there are a limited number of ways to obtain them.

Product Developer Summary

Users were unable to obtain her voicebank after December 31, 2012. Her code officially expired on January 31, 2013. Any codes that were given extensions expired on April 31, 2013. This time, the VOCALOID voicebank was for Yuecheng, the twin brother character from the manhua "Mànhuà Jiā yǔ Dà Míngxīng: Yuèróng yǔ Yuèchéng" ("漫画家与大明星:悦蓉与悦成" / "The Manhua Arist and The Idol: Yuerong and Yuecheng") published by NetEase Comics and would be made in collaboration with Chengdu Yuefang Cultural Broadcast Co.[122] Like Zhang Chuchu before him, a male voice provider audition was launched and Nuochen was confirmed to be the winning participant.[123] Like Zhang Chuchu, Yuecheng was later confirmed to be an exclusive vocal on April 30, 2018. Users who would like to use him in exchange for their music production may apply to get him, but must agree to the contract before doing so. Distribution of Yuecheng's serial codes ceased in around 2020.

Misc. unreleased/cancelled voicebanks[]

The following is a list of known but unreleased VOCALOID voicebanks intended for commercial release. These vocals managed to reach a status where they could be released commercially; however, for one reason or another were never released. Some producers may have access to these vocals, as they were given the voicebanks by VOCALOID studios to use with permission. This list does not include beta stage voicebanks (such as CV-4Cβ) or unnamed known delayed projects (such as Project If...).

Unless there is a license linked to the vocal, YAMAHA will not acknowledge these voicebanks. YAMAHA only acknowledges licensed vocals.

Product Developer Summary
Sweet ANN PowerFX Systems AB. During VOCALOID, a prototype vocal for her called "JODIE" was created, but was never released at the time.
BIG AL PowerFX Systems AB.

There were two different voicebanks for BIG AL that are unreleased; "Ronnie" was a VOCALOID voice bank and was confirmed to be Big AL's original vocal with a different vocalist. When quality issues occurred, the voice was dropped.

BIG AL's second voicebank with Michael King was not released and was replaced. The voicebank had a quality related issue, but the provider was unable to complete a recording session to improve results, and therefore a new provider was found.

RUBY Syo; indie dev
(PowerFX Systems AB.)

A Japanese vocal was made for her but due to the workload and licensing fees, it could not be released.[124] Success of her English vocal would have led to other vocals being considered for her.[125]

In addition, RUBY was originally developed for VOCALOID3 and was redone for VOCALOID4. Voicebanks were produced for the VOCALOID3 version, but never released.

MEIKO Crypton Future Media, Inc. MEIKO Append VOCALOID2 - Used for songs featured in the Project mirai games, but did not meet the VOCALOID2 era deadline. It was released for VOCALOID3 as MEIKO V3.
KAITO Crypton Future Media, Inc.

KAITO Append VOCALOID2 - Also featured demonstrations in the same games, like MEIKO's VOCALOID2, it failed to meet the deadline for the VOCALOID2 retirement. It was released for VOCALOID3 as KAITO V3.

Also, it was reported that voicebanks "Mellow", "Serious", "Solid" and "Sweet" were recorded, as well as a couple of others that brought the total of voicebanks for KAITO up to 6. Two of the vocals were dropped from the package altogether. "Vivid" and "Power" are also named as other recorded vocals done with a new digital mic; nothing else has been said on these vocals, however. Much has changed in the production process in regards to KAITO's product and Crypton did not mention everything in regards to this issue.

Megurine Luka Crypton Future Media, Inc. Megurine Luka Append VOCALOID2 - Generally believed this was delayed because of VOCALOID2's retirement from sale. A few witnesses to a VOCALOID2 version of the package in commercial use have been noted. It was released for VOCALOID4 as Megurine Luka V4X.
CV04β Crypton Future Media, Inc. Male vocal - Originally known as CV04, this VOCALOID was originally destined for VOCALOID2, but after Crypton Future Media got caught up in Hatsune Miku's plans, they ended up delaying the release of new vocals. There is little known about the status of the VOCALOID2 vocal and how far it was in production. With the company having left VOCALOID to produce their own software, this project is now unlikely to appear on VOCALOID.
Hatsune Miku Crypton Future Media, Inc.

Hatsune Miku (English) VOCALOID2 - Miku's English voicebank had not yet begun production. Upon the VOCALOID3 release, Wat mentioned that a VOCALOID2 version was developed. This vocal was never released as it did not produce satisfactory results. It was eventually released as "Hatsune Miku V3 English".

In February 2014, Wat mentioned that he was playing with the wavelengths of experimental vocals he hoped to one day release. The 3 vocals mentioned were KAITO "Light", Miku Falsetto and MEIKO "Hard".[126]

Miku "Falsetto" is a vocal which has never been released (engine unknown). It was recorded as a sort of 7th Append, and its existence was made known in December 2010. The reason for its lack of release was that they felt releasing it as an independent vocal would be useless.

GUMI Internet Co., Ltd.

Megpoid Extend VOCALOID2: Never made the VOCALOID2 deadline, but was released as the V3 Megpoid product instead. It is generally unknown how far into the project INTERNET Co., Ltd got before the transfer from V2 to V3 began or if the VOCALOID2 voicebank was ever completed.

Megpoid - Falsetto: Was cancelled when VOCALOID entered the VOCALOID3 engine due to the difficulty matching all 50 sounds in the falsetto voicebank to the normal Megpoid vocal. The idea for this vocal was eventually reworked into kokone.[127]

REV VOCALO Revolution

In May 2011, "REV", a male counterpart for CUL, was revealed by VOCALO Revolution, and was designed by CUL's creator Hiroto-P.[128][129] Like CUL, REV was given a 3D model by MikuMikuDance modeler Kio and was intended to use VY2's vocals. In September 2020, it was revealed by Hiroto-P on Twitter that REV was planned to become a VOCALOID like CUL, however progress on the project fell through.[130][131]

Depending on if ROSA sold well, REV may be considered for development.[132]

ZOLA PROJECT YAMAHA Corporation
(Bplats, Inc.)
A number of temporary vocals had been recorded to find the 3 most suitable candidates for ZOLA out of 40 singers in their teen-twenties years.[133]
Macne Nana MI7 Japan Inc.
(Bplats, Inc.)
A Chinese prototype vocal was recorded. This has been put aside for a future release.
Zhanyin Lorra NetEase Inc. - Gaming
(Shanghai HENIAN Information Technology Co. Ltd.)
On July 13, 2014, VOCANESE hinted that another VOCALOID was in production along with Yuezheng Ling. On August 26, her design, name and biography were unveiled[134] as well as the company behind her character rights, NetEase.[135] On October 15, her voice provider was announced to be Gui Xian Ren.[136] On November 20, it was confirmed that Lorra would stay as a VOCALOID3 despite VOCALOID4's release. On May 18, 2015, Gui Xian Ren confirmed that Lorra's voicebank was completed.[137] However, in February 2016, it was confirmed that NetEase abandoned her project and she entered long-term suspension. She could only be renewed if another Chinese company is interested in her.[138] In 2017, Joyme Network was confirmed to be the new owner of Lorra and intended to use her as a video game character. It is currently unknown if a VOCALOID voicebank will be produced for her.[139]
Ring Suzune & Hibiki Lui VocaNext Details currently unknown.
SeeU SBS A&T Co,. Ltd.

An English voicebank was expected to be released in Summer 2012. Recording for her English voicebank was confirmed to be finished in August 2012 and SBS reported that the voicebank would go through a tuning process.[140] However, on February 4, 2013, in response to a Korean fan's question about the progress of the English voicebank, SBS posted a reply that the development of the English voicebank was on hold. Reasons for this were unknown.[141]

On September 22, 2023, ST MEDiA hosted a livestream to discuss new information. Regarding SeeU, there were still SBS A&T employees who were still found of her and would like to work on her again, but the executives disapproved as they believed that it would not be profitable. SBS A&T still owned the rights to SeeU fully and was the final decisionmaker in regards to her. ST MEDiA considered purchasing the license from SBS A&T, but the individuals who were worked on her were hurt, so it was not possible as ST MEDiA felt it would be disrespectful to do. In addition, the idea of replacing SeeU's voice provider was also difficult. Instead, it was decided to "stop dreaming" about a SeeU update or remake as it was impossible without SBS A&T's permission. In regards to SeeU's stocking issues, it was confirmed that there were 400 serial codes left, and after those were sold out, it would mark the end of SeeU as a voice library.[142] Due to these revelations, it can be assumed that SeeU's English voicebank production was cancelled.

Nonavailable Zero-G Limited In an email response, Dom Keefe revealed that Zero-G was working on a mature rock vocal.[143] This vocal would have likely been released within 6 months after October 2015, but no information has been given since then.[144] Zero-G later confirmed in 2020 that they are not currently making any new VOCALOIDs.[145]
Nonavailable Dear Stage
(Moe Japan, Co. Ltd.)
As part of the Vocaloidol group, four more vocals were originally planned after Tone Rion. There is currently no news on this group.
Lucía & LUAN Giuseppe (Independent developer)

Lucía: On March 18, 2016, VocaloidMaster Giuseppe posted on Facebook that he was developing a potential female Spanish VOCALOID4 named Lucía. She made her debut with two conceptual designs by artists AkiGlancy and Riisago. Giuseppe attempted to contact different companies with previous VOCALOID experience (such as PowerFX, Zero-G, and VoctroLabs), however, they were not interested due to the costs of obtaining a VOCALOID license. Demonstrations of her voicebank were uploaded on Giuseppe's SoundCloud account.[146] Her voice provider was confirmed to be the daughter of one of Giuseppe's friends. Lucía was named after the voice provider.[147]

LUAN: On July 17, 2016, a demo of a potential new Spanish VOCALOID, LUAN was released. His voice was allegedly programmed by Guiseppe, and set for release by an unknown, independent company. His vocal range was A1-F3. According to AkiGlancy, he was the counterpart to Lucía, a Spanish VOCALOID Guiseppe also programmed, but was unable to find a company for.[148] According to those involved with Giuseppe's projects, it was confirmed that LUAN was voiced by Akuo.[149] After a series of vilitrolic comments from the community and creator, the video and official Twitter were removed.[150]

ViNO Akatsuki Virtual Artists On August 14, 2018, former founder, Kaoru Yoshizawa, tweeted that LUMi was meant to have a rival. This rival was known as ViNO. He was conceptualized as a male seahorse civil officer who served Otohime, but had no official design. This information was revealed as Kaoru Yoshizawa's final contributions to the VOCALOID fandom.[151] It should be noted that it was not explicitly stated if ViNO was meant to only be a character from LUMi's world or if he was meant to be a VOCALOID product.
Yuzuki Yukari Vocalomakets
(Unity Technologies Japan)
The Unity with VOCALOID project is presumed to have ended due to the retirement of both the SDK download and removal of the website.[152]
Zing aquatrax
(EXIT TUNES)
On July 16, 2016, aquatrax posted that during their visit to Firefly ACG Festival 2016 with Shanghai HENIAN, fans asked questions regarding if Zing, the mascot of the Zion mobile rhythm game, would become a VOCALOID. Their response was a post with Zing saying, “See you next time”.[153] It was confirmed on April 1, 2017 that she would become trilingual in Japanese, Mandarin, and English. She was expected to release in Spring 2018.[154] Further information in regards to production is unknown.
"H" (HIPPI) 1st PLACE Co., Ltd.

This project was teased in IA and ONE's 2016 Anniversary livestream. Not much was known about this project aside from its association with the letter "H" and that it was built for the VOCALOID4 engine.[155] No additional information was given prior to its confirmed cancellation on May 15, 2020.[156][157]

On January 1, 2021, during the live broadcast of the IA 9th & ONE 6th Anniversary ‒Super LIVESHOW-, a new design was shown of a character bearing an "H" on their nametag, however no further information was revealed. The official IA & ONE Twitter page went on to retweet a post from another user speculating that this H is the same project from 2016[158], however this is unconfirmed at the time. This character was confirmed to be a new ARIA member.[159] Later in 2021, her official name "HIPPI" was revealed.[160]

Yao Luniang NetEase Inc. - Comics
(Shanghai Wangcheng Information Technology Co. Ltd.)
On August 1, 2017, it was announced that Shanghai Wangcheng would be producing a VOCALOID voicebank for Luniang, the mascot of NetEase Comics. A voice provider audition was launched, though she was never revealed.[161] Given the nature of Zhang Chuchu's and Yuecheng's statuses as private vocals, it was unknown if Luniang would also be an exclusive vocal or if she would have a commercial release. Due to Shanghai Wangcheng's websites and accounts becoming inactive in addition to Chuchu and Yuecheng's retirement, it was assumed that Luniang's project was cancelled.
COCOROBO Sharp Corporation During CEATECH JAPAN 2016 this voicebank was revealed as a 'musical A.I.' robot vacuum with an accompanying VOCALOID4 voice.[162] Several demos were also showcased.[163] She was voiced by Ibuki Kido. On July 23, 2018, SHARP_JP responded to a tweet in regards to the developments of COCOROBO as a voicebank. They stated that while it isn't cancelled, they couldn't make a clear announcement about the circumstances. No further news has been given since then.
UNI Append ST MEDiA Co., Ltd. Since June 2016, it was made aware that UNI would have multiple voicebanks in Korean to take advantage of Cross-synthesis. At the time, only her Soft voicebank was revealed to be in development. In November, it was announced that she would also have a Power voicebank and that the Append set would release separately from her original voicebank. Her expansion pack was intended to release Summer 2017.[164] Information about this package stalled since then. On September 22, 2023, ST MEDiA hosted a livestream to discuss new information. Regarding UNI's "Append" development, an apology was given. Dr. Yun confirmed that during the development of the voicebanks, they needed to restart and the company did not have the funds to do that. They tried to approach investors and the government, but was unsuccessful, and after much time, they were too embarrassed to acknowledge the situation and could not bring themselves to mention it. However, regarding if the "appends" would ever come out, it was unlikely, and Dr. Yun thought it would be a better idea to do a "UNI remake" as an AI voice library since AI technology had been good during this time, and may be open to having it developed on a voice synthesizer other than VOCALOID. Continuing to develop and release the initial VOCALOID4 version would be meaningless. It should be noted that the prospect of pursuing the AI library wasn't an official announcement, but just Dr. Yun thinking out loud and an inclination to perhaps try it. UNI's situation was regarded as a priority, where the resolution of the problem may open doors to future new characters. If UNI's "append" plans were resumed, they would still be "Power" and "Soft". It was also noted that ST MEDiA were still in good contact with UNI's voice provider.[165][166]
UNI English ST MEDiA Co., Ltd. On July 27, 2015, it was hinted that UNI may be able to sing in more than one language. In June 2016, it was revealed that she would be bilingual in English. However, her English voicebank's development would not start until the Append package released.[167] Information about this voicebank stalled since then.
Xia Yu Yao E-Capsule Co., Ltd.
(VOICEMITH)
On January 17, 2015, comments around the time of Xin Hua's release were made in the official Xin Hua Facebook group regarding the history of the virtual singer Xia Yu Yao and her relation to the VOCALOID franchise. It was revealed by a tuner for Xin Hua's demo songs that E-Capsule had initially approached YAMAHA with the intent of producing Xia Yu Yao for the VOCALOID3 engine, however the two corporations had differing opinions regarding the sales of the potential voicebank, which led to the production of an UTAU voicebank instead.[168][169] Yu Yao was later released as a Synthesizer V AI voice database in January 2023.
SONiKA Zero-G Limited SONiKA V4 - On August 21, 2021, illustrator PerroneLia and producer ODDEEO released concept artwork for a potential VOCALOID4 update project for SONiKA that was in production in 2018.[170][171] Aki Glancy confirmed the production of the update, despite having only some involvement in the project and noted that the project did not go past beginning recording and concept design stages due to the release of VOCALOID5.[172] She noted in a comment further down that contact with Zero-G Limited was lost after the project fell through.[173] The concept design was then repurposed for usage in the VOCAMERICA English VOCALOID concert.[174] A 3D model by modeler HeeyeonX2 based on the design was made for use in the concert.[175]

Beta/Prototype voicebanks[]

These vocals exist but are only prototypes and usually, but not always, listed with a "β" ("beta") on their name. There is no indication they were ever meant to be commercial products.

As beta versions, these vocals may not be acknowledged by YAMAHA due to a lack of a VOCALOID license related to them.

Product Developer Summary
CV-4Cβ Crypton Future Media, Inc. was a private voicebank produced by Crypton Future Media that used VOCALOID-flex. CV-4Cβ was produced for robot model HRP-4C performed at CEATEC JAPAN 2009 and it was created by sampling a Japanese seiyuu, Eriko Nakamura.[176][177] Hatsune Miku and GUMI were also used as voicebanks for HRP-4C.[178][179]
Catalan male vocal Music Technology Group
(Voctro Labs, S.L.)
A prototype male Catalan voicebank done by the MTG was featured in a technology demonstration. Jordi Bonada, Voctro cofounder, was the provider.
Project if... Crypton Future Media, Inc. was an experimental voicebank project by Crypton Future Media with several voicebanks known and was a experimental project aimed at a elementary school setting. The series mostly comprised of child vocals but at least 1 adult was known. This project was to follow the Character Vocal series but has not been mentioned since late 2010. Only prototype vocals have been seen so far. At NYCCon 2012, it was confirmed the focus is updating and creating English versions of current Vocals leaving this project with no further news. Junger März PROTOTYPE β, a child vocal is the most notable of these voicebanks.
"Jī-loid" Baba Roy Shuzo (Independent developer) A song made using the prototype VOCALOID2 engine was shared in 2015 via the Soundcloud page of an independent developer named Baba Roy Shuzo. Tentatively titled Jī-loid (爺loid), the vocal used for the test was an older-sounding male vocal, whose voice was rough and lacked clarity. It was built for Japanese and what little is known about it as it was never commercially released.[180]
[name redacted] PurinxPop (Independent developer) In 2018, a female character was introduced. She was confirmed to be a vocal made with the VOCALOID4 engine. The character was planned to be trilingual, with English as her main voicebank and two other voicebanks in Chinese and Japanese. Later, the character was confirmed to be cancelled/on hiatus. The name and details of this project have been withheld on request of the copyright holders.

Rumour mill[]

These vocals are rumoured or hinted to be released but their status has not been made official.

Possible future voicebanks[]

This section contains hints, confirmations and suggestions put out by VOCALOID studios.

Product Developer Summary
Aimi Eguchi YAMAHA Corporation

On January 29, 2012, a Twitter user under the name aymro presented a write-up of their attendance to an annual private banquet[181] of which a YAMAHA VOCALOID department director, (addressed as "S-san" (Sさん) in a series of tweets) hosted alongside guest speaker Miu Sakamoto and was addressing a range of VOCALOID-related products including: Tone Rion[182], Mew[183], SeeU[184] and a VOCALOID "semi-conductor" chip technology.[185] and an impromptu interview was held.

During this interview a potential VOCALOID proposition of the CG (computer-generated) AKB48 member Aimi Eguchi was discussed.[186] The proposition had been dismissed as it was "not possible to grasp the value" of the project and that the "acceptance system on the YAMAHA side was not set up." There has not been any further information of this project and is assumed cancelled. The validity of this claim is in question as the parties in attendence were intoxicated at this proposed meeting.[187]

Celtic male vocal Zero-G Limited

Anders confirmed that if English VOCALOIDs become more popular, Zero-G will consider making Appends/Updates for their VOCALOIDs. Also, Anders confirmed if there is demand updates for all past Zero-G VOCALOIDs to newer engines, it is a possibility. The major factor in this though is the workload needed and involvement in the process against the demand.

Later they confirmed they will likely never update any of their VOCALOID range vocals.

In February 2015, in response to a fan's email, Zero-G expressed a desire to update AVANNA to VOCALOID4. However, their current main focus is to produce new vocals for the engine.

Celtic male; In the pre-release promotions for VOCALOID3, a male and female pair of vocals were announced for the VOCALOID3 engine. While AVANNA, the female, was released, the male did not. In March 2015 in response to a fan's e-mail, Zero-G responded they have yet to find the right voice for the role.[188]

They would consider XSY compatible vocals for DEX and DAINA if they sell well.

Zero-G have confirmed they currently are not interested in making voicebanks for any other language besides English and only want to focus on English.

In August 2017, an admin of Zero-G's Facebook page asked what type of library their followers would like to see next and their suggestions may be considered. Requests for a VOCALOID4 update for MIRIAM were especially noted to be in high demand and may be considered depending on the producers' reply.[189] Later on twitter, Miriam Stockley acknowledged the support.[190]

OLIVER VocaTone

When asked about an update for OLIVER, VocaTone responded there would be issues with trying to give him one, including but not limited to: finding another voice source and a high demand for an update. However, it would be a consideration.[191] Because PowerFX, who distributed the voice of Oliver, are now only focusing on Soundation and have left Vocaloid, Oliver is unlikely to receive an update.

VocaTone responded to a comment about doing an Irish or Northern Irish accent and agreed with the comment this would be "pretty hot". However, they are focusing on the American accent more before they venture into other accents and languages.[192]

In regards to a bilingual English and Spanish vocal, VocaTone commented that they would love to "give it a whirl".[193]

With VocaTone finally leaving VOCALOID in favor of its own voice synthesizer Maghni AI, Oliver AI was announced with native support for English and two other languages; although Spanish was not mentioned as a language for Oliver, Maghni AI's cross-lingual capabilities (similar to VOCALOID6's Multilingual) would still allow him to sing in any non-native language, including Spanish.

GUMI, Lily, and Camui Gackpo Internet Co., Ltd.

During 2012, a fan asked about other English vocals while Megpoid English was in production.[194] Lily and Gackpoid were brought up in a tweet during the Megpoid English development.[195] But English vocals could only occur if they were profitable.[196] Noboru had expressed hope to one day make a Gackpoid English.[197]

It was later mentioned that there are currently no plans to make any new English voicebanks.[198]

In October 2014:[199]

  • it was mentioned again there are no plans for Gackpoid English.
  • They also have no plans to do any Megpoid English Extend vocals such as "Power" and "Adult".
  • Lily English also was confirmed as having no plans. It was explained the reason there are currently no further plans for English vocals at this moment is due to the time (recording, developing and the time of all individuals involved) and money involved.
  • They also have no male vocals planned currently, but it was expressed Noboru wishes to do one in the future.
  • Noboru mentioned that there is a lack of vocals for English (and other languages). This is an issue that is trying to be resolved ~~(by those working with VOCALOID), though they (INTERNET co.) do not have the solution yet.

Noboru confirmed that they wished to update all VOCALOID3s to the VOCALOID4 engine, but that there was no specific schedule.[200][201] As of October 2015, only Gackpo and GUMI received VOCALOID4 updates. As for new voices, Noboru tweeted that he wanted to propose a new recording method for V5.[202]

With the release of VOCALOID6 and its Multilingual function for VOCALOID:AI voicebanks, the need to create separate English voicebanks has now become a moot point, as seen with AI Megpoid and AI Otomachi Una.

Kohaku Otori Unity Technologies Japan
(YAMAHA Corporation)
When speaking about possible future updates to Unity-Chan, her developers spoke that if they feel they need to do fixes, the voice will likely come out around 2020. The vocal will reflect the growth of voice provider Asuka Kakumoto in 2020 if this occurs.[203]
SF-A2 miki, Kaai Yuki, Hiyama Kiyoteru, Nekomura Iroha, Yuzuki Yukari, and Tohoku Zunko AH-Software Co. Ltd.

In an interview, Tomohide Ogata expressed a desire to produce English versions of their VOCALOIDs, however, the project is too complex. He went on to explain that because all of their providers are Japanese, they would would rather seek English speakers of a similar voice to the Japanese versions from the United States and United Kingdom. They are currently considering how to provide bilingual capabilities for now, but are focusing on Japanese first before other languages such as English, Spanish, etc. They acknowledge the demand across the world for the vocals and want to move a plan into place as quickly as possible.[204]

With AH-Software now focusing its efforts on Synthesizer V Studio, whose Cross-Lingual Singing Synthesis feature (akin to VOCALOID6's Multilingual function) allows its AI voice databases to sing in any language supported by the engine, the need for separate voicebanks for other languages became a moot point, with Haruno Sora (formerly a VOCALOID5) being a good example of an AHS VOCALOID now singing English and other languages on another synth since 2023 (and miki and Kiyoteru announced to go there as well in 2024).

Yuezheng Longya Shanghai HENIAN Information Technology Co. Ltd. When Longya's voicebanks, "Normal" and "Soft", were revealed, Rosary stated that a "Power" voicebank was planned but was set aside to make time to focus on developing and releasing Mo Qingxian and Zhiyu Moke. The "Power" voicebank was labelled as delayed and may see a future release.[205]
Macne Nana MI7 Japan Inc.

It was confirmed that Macne Nana French was noted to be a possible future vocal due to her provider also being able to speak French. With the cancellation of ALYS, the possibility of a French Nana is now limited.

In regards to the entire Macne family becoming Vocaloids, there is increasing demand for this to occur. However, the problem right now is money and this may have to be figured out. Options such as Kick starter and other crowd funding options are being considered.[206]

When asked again about the possibility for other Macne vocals to get VOCALOID voicebanks, they said that getting a contract/license was expensive and would depend on how successful Nana and Petit are.[207]

LUMi Akatsuki Virtual Artists

In an August 2017 interview with VNN, it was asked if it was possible for LUMi to have an English voicebank in the future. The AVA staff answered that there are no plans, but noted they have an interest in making one someday. This is also dependent on how well LUMi's Japanese voicebank sells. When asked about a Chinese voicebank, AVA noted they're more likely to support the Chinese fandom through concerts rather than a new vocal for LUMi.

It was also asked if a new VOCALOID or further developments for LUMi would be possible. AVA responded that both were in consideration but would rather focus solely on LUMi for the time being.[208]

Awaiting further confirmation[]

The following are possible upcoming voicebanks whose statuses are not yet clarified, or they are vocal developments which are announced but have not had any updates about their statuses within the last six months.

Project Developer Details
Korean male vocal ST MEDiA Co., Ltd.

On July 8, 2020, kimzipsin was entrusted to announce that a crowdfunding campaign would be launched for a male VOCALOID and ST Media wanted suggestions from fans via survey, though already had some ideas of their own.[209] The ideas they mentioned included an official MMD model, additional phonemes, voice packs, a Korean learning guide, usage guide, demo song files and more.[210] For overseas supporters, the library was in consideration for digital distribution.[211] There was a preference for creating the male on VOCALOID5[212] since the synth was still considered the popular choice in the Korean fandom and because YAMAHA no longer supported VOCALOID4.[213] While ST Media was aware of CeVIO and Synthesizer V, they noted that they were ignorant about the speech synthesis portion of the former.[214] It was mentioned that company contact was needed first before the crowdfunding launch.[215] Questions in regard to what fans would like to see in the new VOCALOID were tweeted but were later deleted. These included preferences in voice type, character design, and a few others.[216] The survey was officially launched on July 10.[217]

On September 22, 2023, ST MEDiA hosted a livestream to discuss new information. Majority of the information was about UNI and SeeU, but mentions of a new character were brought up from time to time. It was confirmed that the company would not be making a new character until UNI's situation with being able to have further developments was resolved. When asked when a new library would be released, ST MEDiA again noted that it would be prioritized after resolving UNI's situation and after SeeU's limited commemorative repacking project was completed. When asked if the library would be male or female, ST MEDiA confirmed it would be male if it was ever to be made.[218]

Fakes/Jokes[]

Official[]

  • Kasane Teto was an April Fool's Day joke on April 1, 2008 made out by the perpetrators to be a new Crypton Future Media VOCALOID. The legacy of this prank continued on for years after its original run and even today some less-informed fans believe she is a VOCALOID. Some time after the joke, an UTAU voicebank for her was created; fifteen years later, a Synthesizer V AI voice database for her was published by AH-Software Co. Ltd.
    • The group behind Teto, the "VIPPERS", have also passed off other characters ("VIPPERLOIDS") as being by Crypton Future Media (actually a variation, like CRVIPTON or CRVYPTON), such as Namine Ritsu, "CV03" Yokune Ruko, and "CV04" Kotone Tsuru.
  • On April 1, 2012, VocaTone announced that "James" would be made into a VOCALOID known as Bird-loid; however, this was an April Fools day joke.[219]
  • Another April Fools' Day joke in 2012 was "Animaloid", which turned out to be also a hint about the upcoming MAYU VOCALOID.
  • Frimomen (フリモメン) was announced on April 1, 2014 as an upcoming VOICEROID and VOCALOID3 male vocal from AH-Software Co. Ltd..[220][221] He was featured alongside other AH-Software characters later on in April 2014 during a live stream event.[222]
    • Voice recordings known as pitagoe (ぴた声) were released for pre-order for Frimomen on August 26, 2021. He is voiced by voice actor Akira Koga (古賀明).[223]
    • Frimomen ultimately received a non-joke talk voicebank for VOICEPEAK on January 13, 2023 and later received an also-not-a-joke singing voice database for Synthesizer V Studio on April 25, 2024.
  • Itoh Hiroyuki was an April 1, 2015 VOCALOID4 male vocal from Crypton Future Media, Inc.. His voicebank was claimed to use the E.V.E.C. system, making him a V4X, and he was part of the "CEO Vocal Series" of Crypton. When his cart button is clicked, the button moves off screen and is replaced with a small advertisement to purchase Megurine Luka V4X instead.[224]
  • Kaede-san was an April 1, 2016 female cat by YAMAHA. She contains the banks Ikaku, Normal, Matatabi and English. She also comes with the JobPlugin "NekoNuigurumi". When her Add to Cart button is clicked, an image comes up saying 「うそニャー!」 (It's a joke, meow!).[225]
  • Hideki Kenmochi tweeted that he had been asked to make a vocal based on the politician Donald Trump's voice. The estimated price tag on such a vocal was jokingly spoken in USD as $10 million + tax.[226][227]
  • Acme Iku V4 was an April 1, 2017 VOCALOID4 female vocal from StudioS. cillia made a "demo" of this voicebank, chaosmaid. StudioS retweeted this demo. Later, it was revealed that the vocal on demo is actually Yumemi Nemu with GEN parameters.[228]
  • VOCALiLi: On April 1, 2018, a male character from Shanghai Wangcheng made his debut and was introduced as VOCALiLi. He was based on Ren Li, the president of Shanghai Wangcheng, and had previously made appearances in the Butterfly manhua series as the boss.[229][230] A demo featuring his voicebank was shown.[231]
  • AI FAT GUMI, a new GUMI expansion voicebank for VOCALOID6, was Internet Co., Ltd.'s April Fools' Day joke for 2023. Sporting a "horizontally-grown" chibi artwork, she was described as singing in opera style.[232]

Fanmade[]

Due to suspected scams in recent years, we urge readers be considerate and careful when supporting unconfirmed projects, especially if they ask for financial endorsement.
  • Ange Wayne: A fake VOCALOID who was spammed over many websites (mainly English speaking ones) for over a month including (but not restricted to) Yahoo Answers, YouTube, the VOCALOID Wikia and VOCALOID Otaku forums. A website was also produced for Ange Wayne.[233]
  • MeAw: Affilated with the defunct company "Starchild", they were two virtual idols dressed in cat-themed attire. While they were marketed as using VOCALOID2 technology this was never confirmed nor acknowledged by YAMAHA.
  • Rune: (not to be confused with Anri Rune) A VOCALOID who was introduced in much the same manner as Ange Wayne, it has been deemed fake until proven otherwise for its manner it was introduced in. A fake "VOCALOID3" logo is found on the video; Twitter and Facebook accounts were also made, showing poor quality art work. The company behind it, "AudX", does not appear to exist.
  • Ion-Nation: Appeared in Late 2012, boasting a boy-band of young male VOCALOIDs. They made several videos and claimed to be part of "VocaTonF and PowerFK".
  • Taku: On October 31, 2013, a group called "VocaloMaker" claimed to be making a Spanish-Japanese VOCALOID that would need further approval from YAMAHA to continue. The video "demonstrating" Taku has been removed.
  • ALYS: Announced December 5, 2013, a group called "VoxWave" campaigned for the possible creation of a bilingual vocal that would be French and Japanese using VOCALOID3 technology. Eventually she became a vocal for Alter/Ego in 2015.
  • Seion Kodokuna: On March 30, 2014, a YouTube channel by the name of 未来のメディア (Mirai no Media Co.) uploaded what was claimed to be a demonstration of a new private VOCALOID using the voice of "a 10-year-old boy". Two more demos were released, one of the two covering a Brazilian song using the Japanese phoneme set, and also including further details on the vocals. The description noted that the VOCALOID would be a tri-lingual bank, using Japanese, English, and Portuguese. However, it was later revealed in the description of the fifth video uploaded that the user had created both the account and videos as a joke, as well as the VOCALOID used for this was that of the POCALOID version of Masaoka Azuki with GEN parameters increased.
  • VIBE: On December 28, 2014, a small group decided to create a local joke for Spain's Day of the Innocents, where idea was to make the UTAU, VIBE, into a "VOCALOID4" with a Portuguese voicebank and extra phonemes to mimic Spanish and English. The group had designed a silhouette and a fake screenshot of the VOCALOID4 engine with edited in phonemes and voicebanks. The voice provider of the UTAU posted the images onto the VIBE fanpage, only to gain a few likes. However, by the next day, the joke was found by a humor page and the "news" was moved over to another website, who thought VIBE was actually going to becoming a VOCALOID. As the page was still local, the group behind VIBE kept silent. Afterwards, VIBE's "VOCALOID4 announcement" became viral in social media sites such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook, obtaining more attention from the Western fans. To continue the joke, the voice provider "leaked" information about VIBE's "development" on Twitter. Eventually, on the night of December 29, the voice provider admitted that VIBE becoming a VOCALOID was a hoax, however, she was inspired by the fan's reaction to the joke. While VIBE is not a VOCALOID, the group is now motivated to try to make the fake "VOCALOID" a reality.[234]
  • STELLA: In early 2015, a virtual idol was introduced as a private 'Virtual Idol' made for a program that was based on common synthesis architecture. She was intended to raise money for the Americans for the Arts Foundation.[235] She was later 'revealed' to be a VOCALOID4 with three voicebanks: "Core" (original), "Sun" (Power)" and "Moon" (Soft).[236] On January 18, a viewer noticed an issue with a STELLA demo, where the video was edited with an overlay.[237] It was then proven that STELLA was not an actual VOCALOID, and the video was removed as soon as this was pointed out.[238][239]
  • IVY: appeared in Jan 2016 under the name of "Project Jupiter". Project claimed to have the backing of PowerFX. In less than a day of announcement, project was announced cancelled due to 'negative feedback'. Though "proof" of legitimacy was supplied, proof was dismissed as suspected hoax by some and there was doubt on the financial backing choice as instead of using a site like "Kickstarter" the project was prepared to use "GoFundMe".[240]
  • Dayana: On July 6, 2024, a Twitter account called ELEKTRIC DREAMS CO announced a new vocal named Dayana, which was advertised as the first "AI Spanish Virtual Vocalist", and that she would be released for VOCALOID6 on October 27; a purported VOCALOCHANGER demo song on YouTube was also linked.[241][242] Some Twitter and YouTube users, however, pointed out that the boxart mockup on the tweet and on the video looked like it was made using generative AI, and started to express words of disgust and disdain, even up to the point of theorizing that the vocal may be fake which, when combined with AI-generated art, would paint Dayana as a bad-taste prank.[243][244][245][246] Also, one YouTube user suggested that the joke would have been more convincing as an off-season April Fools Day-like prank had a "tremendous amount of noise" been added to the demo song.[247] The theory of the voicebank being a troll campaign was further compounded when another Twitter user, claiming to be a beta tester, posted a video described as an English Multilingual test for Dayana (with the VSQX claimed to be credited to CircusP), then said that Dayana would be released on November 31, 2027 (an obviously troll date, as November only has 30 days), thus contradicting ELEKTRIC DREAMS' initial claim of an October 27, 2024 release date;[248] ELEKTRIC DREAMS responded by claiming that Dayana's beta voicebank was capable of singing in 17 languages, in spite of VOCALOID6's Multilingual function only supporting three languages (among which Spanish is not included).[249] Later, the beta tester admitted that the VOCALOID6 claim was a joke and that Dayana was actually a "poorly-made" RVC model they had made out of boredom.[250] Still, a few users did like the vocal, even if the voicebank turned out to be fake;[251][252][253] even one user offered to draw Dayana themself to replace the AI art, had they had art skills.[254] Nevertheless, because of the backlash she received for her AI-generated art, ELEKTRIC DREAMS issued a five-tweet-long apology thread (in Spanish) where she admitted Dayana was a joke vocal and that she was sorry for offending artists by using AI-generated art;[255][256] she admitted to be Dayana's voice provider and thought it would be taken for a simple prank, not expecting it to be received instead as a bad joke;[257] she also begged other users to not reuse Dayana's AI art out of respect for the real artists, and although she hinted at the possibility of retaking the voicebank in the future, she expressed that she was left with a "bad taste in her mouth" so she was unsure how to proceed further with it, yet she thanked those fans who admired Dayana in spite of her prank status.[258] She hoped that this would teach her a lesson, and she begged for forgiveness because she did not want to cause a huge problem.[259]
  • Leo: On the same day Dayana was "revealed" as a Spanish VOCALOID6 AI voicebank, a teaser image of two silhouettes was posted by ELEKTRIC DREAMS CO on Twitter; the purple silhouette to the left matched Dayana's design more or less, while the orange one to the right hinted at a second, different character.[260] This second character was later "revealed" to be a new vocal called Leo, and he was described to be a private VOCALOID4 voicebank,[261] even though Yamaha had discontinued this engine version since 2018, making the announcement itself even more suspicious than Dayana's. This other vocal also was not well received by the fandom, not only because of the apparent usage of AI-generated art, but also because the developer claimed Leo's voice provider was her own brother who was no longer alive (and whose voice she recorded as a form of remembering him),[262] which if true would have both legal and ethical implications. His (posthumous) voice also turned out to be actually an RVC model.[263] After complaints from at least one user criticizing the combination of a deceased person's RVC-modeled voice with AI-generated artwork, and because of the legal implications involved, the Leo VOCALOID4 tweet was deleted.
