Utatane Piko VOCALOID2 | Songs Albums Notable Originals

This article is about the VOCALOID2 software known as a voicebank. If you are looking for the VOCALOID character then click here.

History[]

Utatane Piko was originally meant to be the partner vocal of SF-A2 miki but due to problems he was separated from his "sister" vocal.[1]

Piko was released on December 8, 2010, at a price of 15,750 yen (around $173.08). A free trial version was released on December 1. The same day his trial was released, Sony demanded that all content made with it be taken down.[2] Piko's artwork was designed by YukitA.

Final Retirement[]

At the end of 2015, it was announced that from March 31, 2016, VOCALOID2 was being retired and no new serial codes were be issued by Yamaha.[3]

In 2017, Yamaha noted that anyone who sent the proof of ownership could get a code to import Piko into VOCALOID4.[4]

In July 2020[5], it was noticed that Piko's voicebank was marked "out of stock" on Sony Music's store website.[6]

Package details as noted:

He is a CV VOCALOID based on the voice of the Japanese male singer Piko[7], who is able to sing in very high notes, making him the second youngest known male voice within the VOCALOID2 era, being VY2 the first one.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • He is praised as a versatile VOCALOID capable of a multitude of vocal tones and results. He is said to be able to easily fit in a variety of roles within music because of it.
  • He also has the second highest known optimum vocal range of any male VOCALOID within the VOCALOID2 era only beaten by Kagamine Len in range. However, he is highest male actually voiced by a male vocalist.[8]
  • Owed to the softness of his vocals, sometimes he can be harder to understand.
  • Some have noted he often produces flat or muffled results in the lower notes.
Software issues as noted:
  • In its default state, he is the least masculine sounding male vocal sampled by a male that was released in VOCALOID2. He cannot produce a satisfactory low masculine vocal tone as a result of it.[9]
