This is an article about the V3 Gackpoid software for the VOCALOID3 engine. Gackpoid is the product name for VOCALOID Camui Gackpo.

History

Internet Co., Ltd didn't announce at first if Gackpo would be extended like Gumi, however, they confirmed if there is a demand for it they would consider producing one. Later it was confirmed all of Internet co., Ltd's VOCALOID2 voicebanks would receive a VOCALOID3 update.

V3 Gackpoid 2012

During the Vocafarre, it was revealed that Gackpo's update would follow Lily's.

Gackpo has several voicebanks in his Extend. "Power","Whisper", and "Native" are the 3 voicebanks confirmed in the booklet of the CD, Kamuizm (Kamui Musou, 神威夢奏). This information was gathered from a interview with Mr. Murakami.[1]

In May it was noted that more triphones were added than ever before to Gackpoid's "native" vocal, causing significant improvements over the VOCALOID2 version.[2]

In June 2012, it was mentioned were being worked upon and vocal fixes were occurring.[3] Consonants were also being checked against the addition of the triphones, the waveforms of the native vocal were being swapped around to see if they improved the quality of the vocal.[4]

Later it was revealed that V3 Gackpoid was going to be released on July 13, 2012. Members of the website Dears could receive a different version this package if they bought it before June 26, 2012 23:00. This version is more expensive, has different boxart, and includes some bonus extras. Only members who had joined no later than March 15, 2012 could order the product. It was shipped in July.[5]

Mac Update

In July 2013, Internet co.,Ltd announced a Mac update of this product for the VOCALOID NEO engine.[6]

GENERAL USAGE

Package details as noted:

The V3 Gackpoid software is an update which includes 3 vocals: an improved version of the original Gackpoid vocal and 2 new vocals, designed to have a natural tone to their voices. Vocals can be purchased separately or as a complete package.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • At times the 2 vocals with changed tones can sound too similar to the "Native" vocal.
  • At a optimum range going as low as #A1, VY2v3 "Standard" and V3 Gackpoid jointly hold the title of lowest known Japanese VOCALOID range of VOCALOID3. They are beaten as overall lowest range by Bruno at #E1.
  • At a optimum vocal range as high as #C4, Normal and Power hold the title of 2nd highest masculine vocal of VOCALOID3. They are beaten by VY2v3 "Falsetto".

Cross-Synthesis as noted:

When imported into VOCALOID4, the cross-synthesis (XSY) function can be used on all 3 voicebanks within this package.

  • In total the package offers the equivalent of 6 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the package comes to a theoretical 9 voicebanks in total.

  • From Ver.4.3.0 of the Vocaloid engine, a XSY group "Internet" was added to Vocaloid. All vocals within the "Internet" group can XSY with each other. This vocal release is part of this group. If a User owns one or more vocals within the "Internet" group, XSY between them will open up as a result of owning this release.
    • The group has 8 characters within it that can XSY; Gumi, Camui Gackpo, Ryuto, Cul, Kokone, Chika, Lily and Otomachi Una.
    • The "Internet" group is currently the largest XSY group at 29 voicebanks. If old versions that have since been re-released are removed, there are currently 21 unique voicebanks. These are; "Gackpoid Native", "Gackpoid Whisper", "Gackpoid Power", "Lily Native", "Lily", "Cul", "Kokone", "Gachapoid", "Chika", "Otomachi Una Sugar", "Otomachi Una Spicy", "Megpoid Native", "Megpoid Sweet", "Megpoid Adult", "Megpoid Power", "Megpoid Whisper", "Megpoid Nativefat", "Megpoid Mellowadult", "Megpoid Powerfat", "Megpoid Naturalsweet" and "Megpoid Softwhisper".
    • In total if user was to own every VOCALOID3 and VOCALOID4 XSY capable INTERNET co., LTD vocal, this offers the equivalent of 812 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the combined packages comes to a theoretical 841 voicebanks in total.[7]
  • Note that Users of the updated XSY list have to understand that as confirmed by Internet co., Ltd themselves, depending on the combination of the two vocals a level of extra unwanted noise may be generated.
  • Another note worthy detail on V4 and later vocals compared to V3 vocals within this group is that Internet Co., Ltd. increased the number of triphones from Chika onwards. Thus, many newer vocals do not match sound-for-sound with the older pre-Chika released vocals.
  • Post VOCALOID4 releases were also developed with XSY in mind, so are better for XSY then the older VOCALOID3 releases.
  • In addition to not being built with XSY in mind, VOCALOID3 packages with only 1 vocal in their contents that were released may be even more problematic for XSY. Internet co often made multi-pack releases have a quality that made switching mid-song less noticeable between voicebanks, making them slightly better for XSY then single vocal releases.
  • Note that also "GWL" does not become viable for use with any V3 vocals used as the primarily vocal. This should be considered when using any vocal for XSY within the "Internet" group from V3.
    • The Gackpoid vocal is the only example of a true masculine result within the Internet group. It works best for the other vocalists in the secondary position and can help give more authentic masculine result from the other voicebanks in the group.
    • Due to the improvements made in the VOCALOID4, new users may wish to seek out the improved Gackpoid V4 version over this version of the release.

    V3 Gackpoid Native

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

"Native" is the starting or "mid" vocal in use of XSY. From native, it is possible to swiftly go to either "Power" or "Whisper" via XSY and the leap between the vocals is much more subtle then going straight from "Whisper" to "Power" via XSY and vice versa.

    So the main expression paths to XSY are;

    • XSY ("Whisper" x "Native") ⇄ "Native" ⇄ XSY ("Native" x "Power")
    • "Whisper" ⇄ XSY ("Native" x "Whisper") ⇄ "Native" ⇄ XSY ("Native" x "Power") ⇄ "Power"

Without fully using the "Power" and "Whispter" vocals at all as solo voicebanks.

While this is the most natural transistion from lower to upper vocal capablities, it requires the most steps (3 in total) and therefore cannot always be used.

      Total Tempo (min-max): 90 BPM  No. of Keys: W ~ 17, B ~ 11, Total ~ 28
    Package details as noted:

The "POWER" voicebank is a stronger tone of vocal, it captures the power of Gackt more than the original vocal does.

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • Was created using new recordings.
    • It lacks much of the original's VOCALOID2 Gackpoid packages nasally voice.
    • Has strong attack.
    • Power can at times have a little difficulty in separating itself from the tone of "Native" with certain tuning.

    V3 Gackpoid Power

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

"Power" adds strength in XSY to the upper vocal ranges, the most extreme of the parrings is with "Soft".

    Product Information

    Package details as noted:

The "WHISPER" is a soft and gentle voicebank library

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • Was created using new recordings.
    • Is more expressive than "Power" or "Native" and "friendlier" sounding.
    • Has a more limited optimum vocal range compared to either the Native or Power vocals, therefore quality can sometimes not be as on par as with the other two vocals.
    • It can have a slight clarity issue on some octaves due to the softness of the voice and may also display a lisp or raspy quality if not properly tuned.

    V3 Gackpoid Whisper

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

Unlike other "Soft" or "whisper" vocals of other VOCALOID3 or VOCALOID4 releases, "Whisper" is for adding extra expression and not for focus on the lower vocal ranges so muchs, the most extreme of the parrings is with "Soft".
