This article is about the VOCALOID5 software known as a voicebank. If you are looking for the VOCALOID concept then click here.

History[]

On July 2, 2018, it was announced that the VOCALOID SHOP would cease distribution of the VOCALOID4 editor, the VOCALOID4 editor for Cubase, and the VOCALOID4 starter packs. In addition, VY1v4, VY2v3, CYBER DIVA, and CYBER SONGMAN were confirmed to be taken off of the site as well. This was set to occur on July 12.[1]

On July 12, VOCALOID5 was announced and released. It was available in two versions: Standard and Premium. The standard package included 4 standard vocals: Amy, Chris, Kaori, & Ken. The premium package included the 4 standard vocals and an updated version of VY1, VY2, CYBER DIVA II, and CYBER SONGMAN II.[2] However, it is possible to purchase the VY1 VOCALOID5 voicebank on its own.

Package details as noted:

The new VOCALOID5 version is nearly identical to the previous VOCALOID4 version.

The VOCALOID SHOP offered two methods of obtaining the new version via a upgrade.

  • The first was a simple and straight forward VOCALOID4 -> VOCALOID5 offer.
  • The second was if the user purchased the Premium version; all 4 of the VY series which part of and included with this version along the new Standard Vocals.

Her VOCALOID5 description reads; "This female Japanese voicebank features smooth vocals with clear and powerful long tones."

Vocal traits as noted:
  • Minor adjustments to improve the vocal.
Software issues as noted:
  • No reason to rush to upgrade since it is more or less the same as the old version.
  • Due to the lack of the XSY function, the voice is unable to be used as effectly as it once was. While "Normal" was the main released voicebank of VY1v4, its effectiness required the use of additional XSY voicebanks. Without XSY, this renders this version of the VY1 vocal the weakest in the main stable VOCALOID releases.
  • VY1's 3 extra vocals "Natural", "Soft" and "Power" from VOCALOID4 are not included, only "Normal" is present in this release. The result is the voicebank is seen as a lesser value option over VY1v4.
