UNI VOCALOID4 Append English | Songs Albums Notable Originals

This article is about the assumed cancelled VOCALOID4 software known as a voicebank, dubbed Append. If you are looking for the VOCALOID character then click here.

History[]

2015[]

On July 27, 2015, several questions were brought up to VOCALOID EMPIRE's Twitter account. It was confirmed that UNI would have more than one voicebank and it was hinted that she may be able to sing in multiple languages.[1][2] However, the certainty of these claims was later thrown into question by a translator. Korean tweets suggested UNI would only be released with one voicebank, but more if she was successful.[3]

2016[]

On June 17, 2016, a sample of UNI's voicebank was released and was confirmed to use a "Soft version" that was still in development. It was revealed that she would be capable of cross-synthesis and was set for release in September. An English voicebank was slated for 2017. It was also mentioned that her voice provider had changed during production.[4]

On November 16, it was later announced that UNI's Korean voicebank was delayed to January 2017. However, her "Append" voicebanks, Power and Soft, would be released separate from the original voicebank in Summer 2017.[5]

Information about the production of this software stalled since then. In July 2020, in regards to planning an upcoming Korean male VOCALOID, ST MEDiA stated that YAMAHA no longer supported the VOCALOID4 engine, which now limits the possibility of UNI receiving more voicebanks.[6]

2023[]

On September 22, 2023, ST MEDiA Co., Ltd. hosted a livestream to discuss new information. Regarding UNI's "Append" development, an apology was given. Dr. Yun confirmed that during the development of the voicebanks, they needed to restart and the company did not have the funds to do that. They tried to approach investors and the government, but was unsuccessful, and after much time, they were too embarrassed to acknowledge the situation and could not bring themselves to mention it. Because of this, the company planned to host monthly livestreams and communicate better in the future. However, regarding if the "appends" would ever come out, it was unlikely, and Dr. Yun thought it would be a better idea to do a "UNI remake" as an AI voice library since AI technology had been good during this time, and may be open to having it developed on a voice synthesizer other than VOCALOID. Continuing to develop and release the initial VOCALOID4 version would be meaningless. It should be noted that the prospect of pursuing the AI library wasn't an official announcement, but just Dr. Yun thinking out loud and an inclination to perhaps try it. It was also confirmed that the company would not be making a new character until UNI's situation was resolved. If UNI's "append" plans were resumed, they would still be "Power" and "Soft". It was also noted that ST MEDiA were still in good contact with UNI's voice provider.[7][8][9]
