Xingchen VOCALOID4 | Synthesizer V Studio | Songs Albums Notable Originals

This article is about the VOCALOID4 software known as a voicebank. If you are looking for the VOCALOID character then click here.

History[]

Xingchen was originally conceptualized as "Quadimensionko", a mascot for the Quadimension doujinshi album series and group.[2] Quadimensionko was created based on the group's name and their fondness for science-fiction themes. Quadimension was interested in creating a female character that had a science-fiction style with a sense of science and technology that looked suitable for flying around the universe, as well as requiring her to have four ponytails due the the group being known as "Quad"imension. After struggling with these requirements, Quadimension released the two PVs for the albums Quadimension and Quadimension II, which inspired November, Quadimensionko's illustrator. He watched the two PVs and was interested in the cubes that flew in the videos, leading him to research background information based on the element and presented the ideas of Metatron's Cube and starfruits. With these combined ideas, Quadimensionko was created.[3]

2015[]

Quadimension (later known as Beijing Photek in 2016) hinted that Quadimensionko would become a VOCALOID, however, fans were not convinced due to the fact that the information was shared on April 1, 2015.[4]

On May 28, Shanghai HENIAN announced that they had taken up Quadimension's commission to develop a VOCALOID4 voicebank for Xingchen. Her recordings would take place in June and it was confirmed that she would not be a part of Vsinger, Shanghai HENIAN's main VOCALOID project. She would be the first VOCALOID for the Voice Customize Project instead. A newly refined version of her design was also showcased and was confirmed to be created by November.[5]

On May 29, after receiving worried feedback about her design from the Chinese VOCALOID community, Xingchen would be receiving new clothes, but her hairstyle would not be changed.[6] On the same day, Shanghai HENIAN posted a thread concerning the many questions Chinese fans asked. The Voicebank Customize Project was described to be a series of characters that were conceptualized or pitched by outside groups and companies. These groups approach Shanghai HENIAN to try to convince them to make a voicebank for their conceptualized character and provide the funding. With this in mind, this character would not be part of the Vsinger group.

It was also explained why Yuezheng Ling was a VOCALOID3 vocal and why Xingchen was a VOCALOID4. By the time Xingchen was conceptualized, the VOCALOID4 engine was in a more stable position and was ready for Chinese VOCALOIDs to be produced.[7]

On July 6, a livestream on bilibili was held by ideolo, the artist of Vsinger's original cast members. A new concept for Xingchen was revealed, with the design created by November. November passed the design onto ideolo, who became the artist for her final boxart. It was noted that November had a difficult time trying to redesign her and this was the end result.[8] Her updated design was revealed on July 17 at Firefly Con.[9] On July 29, November's redesign concept was revealed to the public.[10]

On August 2, it was confirmed that Xingchen was in the tuning process.[11] On September 26, it was announced that she would likely be released in February 2016.[12]

2016[]

On January 3, 2016, it was mentioned that Xingchen's first demo was completed and that her official album was in the works.[13] It was also confirmed through Xingchen's official Twitter that it took six months to produce her voicebank.[14]

On February 3, Xingchen was confirmed to be awaiting approval from YAMAHA.[15] Her product page was uploaded on February 7, stating that she would become available for pre-order soon and that her official demo would be released when they launched her pre-orders.

On February 13, a teaser was released for the 2016 bilibili New Year Gala, however, it was confirmed that it was not part of the final PV for her demo.[16][17]

Xingchen became available for pre-order on February 20. Other products, such as her official album and artbook, also became available for pre-order. Her first demo was released on the same day. The stock packages were expected to ship from YAMAHA in Japan to Quadimension in China in mid-March, pushing back her estimated February release. According to the banners on Quadimension's Weibo accounts and taobao shop, she was expected to release in Spring 2016.[18][19] Her voice provider was also revealed to be Chalili, a popular Chinese Utaite.[20] On February 21, some information about Xingchen's character were released.[21]

On February 28, in response to a fan's tweet, it was noted that Xingchen would be receiving a digital download.[22]

On April 13, Quadimension began shipping Xingchen's pre-order packages.[23]

Final Retirement[]

As of Spring 2022, it was noted on Quadimension's Taobao shop that Xingchen's VOCALOID4 packages were scarce and the company warned that once the packages ran out, they would be not restocked. Xingchen's new AI voice database for Synthesizer V Studio, known Xingchen Infinity, was released on February 20, which was intended to replace Xingchen V4, although this version was noted to have a different sound and texture due to the difference in recording method and engine processing.[24] Suggested workarounds to have the AI voice database sound closer to the VOCALOID4 version was provided.[25] Around January 2023, a user noticed that Xingchen's VOCALOID4 packages were officially noted to be out of stock.[26] Though in mid December 2023, another user noted her package can be bought on TaoBao, but it is noted to be in "scarce source". It is also noted you can not get a refund.[27]Though in early January of 2024, she is once again retired, as the package is sold out.
