This article is about the VOCALOID4 software known as a voicebank. If you are looking for the VOCALOID character then click here.

History[]

When VOCALOID4 was released, Yukari was assigned an update. Chihiro Ishiguro, who was part of the team behind Yukari, was involved with the project due to her experience in voice acting to produce two new voicebanks for the character. The team wanted to develop Yukari in both VOCALOID and VOICEROID before they started on any new vocal.[1]

Silhouettes for Yuzuki Yukari, along with the other VOCALOIDs by AH-Software, were revealed on a poster on November 6, 2014, however, it was unconfirmed what they were for at the time.[2] On November 20, it was revealed in the livestream for VOCALOID4 that they all would be receiving VOCALOID4 voicebanks with the exception of Tohoku Zunko.

Yukari was specifically announced to be receiving an "Onn" voicebank as well as her original voicebank.[3] This new voicebank was intended to sound calmer than her original, similar to the "Whisper" and "Soft" voicebanks produced by other companies.

On December 20, via a livestream, it was announced that Yukari would receive three V4 voicebanks: her "Onn" (穏) voicebank, a powerful "Lin" (凛) voicebank, and a natural "Jun" (純) voicebank that was intended to be similar to her original V3.[4][5] It was also revealed that Yukari's voicebanks could be purchased together in one package or separately.[6]

On January 28, 2015, a press release revealed the prices for the download and physical versions of her individual voicebanks, her complete package, and her starter pack. It was also mentioned that people who have purchased her VOCALOID3 version, or registered as one of AHS's users, would receive a discount on her VOCALOID4 update. She was released on March 18.[7][8]

On March 3, AH-Software and DTM magazine hosted a livestream showcasing all of Yukari's voicebanks individually as well as cross synthesis and growl capabilities.

On March 11, Yukari V4's trial was made available, which included all three of her voicebanks.[9]

Product Information
Versions
Trial/Demo Vers?: Yes  Starter Available?: Yes  App vers.?: Yes
Package details as noted:

The updated version of Yuzuki Yukari. Is intended to be a direct recreation of her voice provider's vocals and includes the new version of Yukari's VOCALOID3 voicebank ("Jun") along with additional voicebanks: a whispery ("Onn") tone and a powerful ("Lin") tone. The 3 vocals can be bought either as a complete package, or separately.

In December 2016, a "exVOICE" (extra sound material) was released. The bonus samples are sold separate to the main Vocaloid packages across 3 volumes or as a complete package and together contain a total of 1,284 samples between them.[10] In addition, in 2017, her Voiceroid software was updated to Voiceroid2.[11]

A version of this package was originally planned for the Unity with VOCALOID software, however it is presumed cancelled.[12]

Vocal traits as noted:
  • Like the previous vocal she works best with Jazz.
  • The vocals are easy to tune and do not suffer pitching issues.
  • The package works well with a counter voice for another vocal that is strong and is therefore great for duets.
  • The package provides a colourful assortment of expression.
  • Still has issues with sounding out of breath at the end of notes.
Software issues as noted:
  • [-] can create problems (example [あー] is a known issue combintion).
Cross-Synthesis as noted:

XSY is possible providing at least 2 vocals from this package are installed.

  • In total, the package offers the equivalent of 6 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the package comes to a theoretical 9 voicebanks in total.

  • From Ver.4.3.0 of the VOCALOID engine onwards, a XSY group "AHS" was added to VOCALOID. All vocals within the "AHS" group can XSY with each other. This vocal release is part of this group. If a user owns one or more vocal releases within the "AHS" group, XSY between them will open up.[13][14]
    • The group has 8 characters within it that can XSY: Yuzuki Yukari, Macne Nana, Macne Petit, Tohoku Zunko, Hiyama Kiyoteru, Nekomura Iroha, SF-A2 miki and Kizuna Akari.
    • The "AHS" group is currently the second largest XSY group within VOCALOID, having a total of 14 voicebanks that can XSY with each other. If old versions that have since been re-released are removed, there are currently 12 unique voicebanks. These are: "Yuzuki Yukari Jun", "Yuzuki Yukari Onn", "Yuzuki Yukari Lin", "SF-A2 miki", "Tohoku Zunko", "Macne Nana", "Macne Petit", "Kizuna Akari", "Hiyama Kiyoteru Natural", "Hiyama Kiyoteru Rock", "Nekomura Iroha Natural" and "Nekomura Iroha Soft".
    • In total if a user was to own every VOCALOID3 and VOCALOID4 AH-Software vocal within the "AHS" group, this offers the equivalent of 182 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the combined packages comes to a theoretical 196 voicebanks in total.
  • Note that also "GWL" does not become viable for use with any V3 vocals used as the primarily vocal. This should be considered when using any vocal for XSY within the "AHS" group from V3.
  • Also note that the updated vocals that brought a VOCALOID from VOCALOID3 into VOCALOID4 provided few differences, aside from adding GWL. Therefore these updates can provide little difference when used for XSY.
    • Her vocals smooth handling of slower genres makes her good for ballad songs and is carried over into XSY. She plays an almost opposite role in XSY compared to Macne Nana V4's as secondary XSY for this reason.
    • There is little difference between the original VOCALOID3 version and the new VOCALOID4 "Jun" version. XSY between this vocal and the VOCALOID3 produces the least possible result variations.

      Total Tempo (min-max): 60 BPM  No. of Keys: W ~ 17, B ~ 11, Total ~ 28
    Package details as noted:

Jun (Natural) is an update of the original Yukari VOCALOID3 voicebank. This is the main singing vocal of Yuzuki Yukari. As with the original vocal, this favours the music genres pop and traditional jazz.

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • Update allows access to all VOCALOID4 features.
    • Certain phonetic issues of the original V3 release were fixed, giving an overall improvement to Yukari's vocals.

    Yuzuki Yukari VOCALOID4 Jun

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

"Jun" is either the main starting point of the XSY pathing or the mid-range vocal between "Onn" and "Lin". Either going from or via "Jun" will result in a softer, smoother transisition then going straight from "Onn" to "Lin" or vice versa.

    The Path via XSY to control expression are;

    • XSY ("Lin" x "Jun") ⇄ "Jun" ⇄ XSY ("Jun" x "Onn")
    • "Lin" ⇄ XSY ("Lin" x "Jun") ⇄ "Jun" ⇄ XSY ("Jun" x "Onn") ⇄ "Onn"

Otherwise, "Jun"s main role in XSY is to be a soft expressive vocal for "Lin", but one that is more subtler then "Onn", and to add a more subtler firmness to "Onn" then the extreme nature of the "Lin" vocal would.

      Total Tempo (min-max): 60 BPM  No. of Keys: W ~ 17, B ~ 11, Total ~ 28
    Package details as noted:

Onn (Whisper) is a soft, whispery toned voicebank. It acts as a supporting vocal to the main "JUN" vocal. It works best for jazz, ballads and other calm genres. It is a result of applied voice acting techniques and was recorded from an entirely new set of recordings. [1]

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • With a similar tempo and range to the "JUN" vocal, this acts as more of a natural tone change than "Lin".
    • This is a more expressive vocal, which gives it the smooth, loose pronunciations for slow genres of music.

    Yuzuki Yukari VOCALOID4 Onn

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

"Onn"'s main role in XSY is to add expression to either "Jun" or "Lin". Unlike some other "Soft" or "whisper" voices, it is not so much about focusing on the lower ranges as it is for giving expression. It is the most expressive of the 3 voicebanks in XSY for that reason.

    Product Information
    Optimum
      Optimum Range: G2 ~ A4  Optimum Tempo: 80 ~ 200 BPM
      Total Tempo (min-max): 120 BPM  No. of Keys: W ~ 16, B ~ 11, Total ~ 27
    Package details as noted:

Lin (Power) is a vocal with a stronger and solid tone. It acts as a supporting vocal to the main "JUN" vocal. It is best suited for heavier genres such as techno and rock. It is a result of applied voice acting techniques and was recorded from an entirely new set of recordings. [1]

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • It is capable of sharper transitions between notes due to a strong treble range.
    • Has the largest tempo of all 3 vocals, allowing it to cover the most types of genres.
    • While "JUN" and "ONN" are geared towards more slow paced genres, Lin is geared towards faster, upbeat songs.
    • It has greater clarity than "JUN" and "ONN".
    • Gives more of an impact when used for XSY than "JUN" or "ONN".
    • Some users noted that is quite different compared to the other two voicebanks and produces a more particular performance.
    • The tempo range total is double that of the other two voicebanks in this release, allowing it to cover many more genres of music then either can cover.
    Software issues as noted:

"Lin"'s main role in XSY is to add dramatic emphysasis and power to either "Jun" or "Lin". Unlike the other 3 vocals, "Lin" has a reputation for being an extremity; it has has a much more noticable impact on "Jun" or "Onn" then those voicebanks have on each other.

    • Note that Lin is noted for warping in XSY on upper ranges and it can be harder to balance it vocal out during XSY.
